GAME DESIGNER'S CORNER

Saskatchewan has a growing community of board game and role playing game designers. PGX supports local gamemakers showcase their games by hosting a "Game Designer's Corner" in which there will be demos and play tests of local designs featured throughout the day. Contact Derek (lifeofturner) for more details!

GAME: Ultimate 4 Square
DESIGNER: Colter Hahn (Indoor Playground Games)
PLAYERS: 2-6 (4-5 recommended)
START TIME: 9:00 am and 10:30 am
DURATION: 1-1.5 hours

Do you remember the awesome childhood game Four Square? Players would make their way to the Kings Square by facing against their fellow peers with a big rubber ball and using endurance, skill, and power to win! Ultimate 4 Square is designed to simulate the back-and-fourth concept of the classic playground game and brings familiarity and nostalgia to its fan base. It uses dice to attack and cards to defend which presents a refreshingly new experience to board game players.

GAME: Deck of Many Dungeons
DESIGNER: Laura Smart
PLAYERS: 2-7 (best with 3-6) including GM
START TIME: 11 am and 3 pm
DURATION: 2½-3 hours

DoMD is a fully-featured RPG taking place in the war-ravaged fantasy land of Koregard.  The central conceit of the system is that gear, abilities, and most of the rules are on cards.  Making a character or planning an encounter is as fast as making your choices.  Everything is designed to be modular, so you can mix & match gear and classes in any way you like.  And if you play over multiple sessions, you can level up and pick out new abilities, or find enchanted items.

GAME: Food and Energy Strategy Game [Working Title]
DESIGNER: Bill Strautman
PLAYERS: 4 (best)
START TIME: 12 pm and 3 pm
DURATION: 1.5-2 hours

The world needs food and energy. You are a global entrepreneur that will jet around the world, set up food production and energy production units, ship your production to market and try to make your sales at the top of the market rather than the bottom. But various world events or aggressive opponents' moves might get in your way. Your objectives are to earn $1 billion, maintain control of production units in four separate regions of the world, and gain security with gold. But life isn’t all work and no play. You must also gain your passport by taking a vacation through Australia. The first player to gain and hold all four objectives is the winner.

GAME: Crimewave
DESIGNER: Dastardly Fun Games (David Bagwell & co.)
PLAYERS: 2-6
START TIME: Throughout the day
DURATION: 45-60 mins.

Crimewave is played in a series of rounds. Each round represents an instance of an ongoing turf war in Denton City. In each round, players earn points by using the abilities of certain cards or by having the card with the highest value once the play deck is empty. As soon as one player has accumulated enough points, they are declared the Crime Lord of the city, allowing them to bask in the glory of their underworld power.
