Teaching easy / accessible games to people. "Learn to Play" is a PGX initiative to help introduce new games to PGX attendees. Game teachers will teach a single game to groups of people over a two-hour block. Please contact us here if you're interested in volunteering.

PGX is a great place to showcase the many diverse miniature games in the hobby. PGX has hosted events for all sorts including Warhammer (Age of Sigmar, 40K, Kill Team, etc), Warmachine, Infinity, Star Wars X-Wing, Star Wars Legion, Gaslands & more!

DETAILS: The ComicReaders Downtown Warhammer 40K Escalation League comes to a close at Prairie Game Expo, with the Top 8 players battling it out in a tournament. The tournament is already full with players from the Escalation League. Warhammer 40K is, however, a visually dynamic game and attendees of Prairie Game Expo are encouraged to check out the armies on display in these tabletop battles. This is a closed event-- the players are already selected from the Escalation League-- but for those of you who are interested in such things, the full tournament details can be found here.

DETAILS: Guild Ball is a tactical miniatures game of skirmish soccer.  Cory from the Regina Guild Ball community will be at Prairie Game Expo to demo the game of Guild Ball. Existing players of Guild Ball are also encouraged to drop in at Prairie Game Expo because there will be a pitch set up for drop-in games. If you would like a demo of Guild Ball or are coming to play Guild Ball please respond to this post to let Cory know you are interested. Cory will be at the event for as long as there is interest in the demo.

Saskatchewan has a growing community of board game and role playing game designers. PGX supports local gamemakers showcase their games by hosting a "Game Designer's Corner" in which there will be demos and play tests of local designs featured throughout the day. Divided Loyalties is a customizable, living, fast-paced skirmish-strategy game that uses dice rolling, area control, action economy, push-your-luck, and customization. Players are a leader of a nation who is attempting to reunite the divided regions within the territory of conflict under their own banner after a catastrophic event. By utilizing the strengths of your units, the unique traits of each region, and personal cunning, gain the loyalty of the populace under your banner.

GAME: The New World Order

Years after the great war they call "the apocalypse"  has ended, humans and aliens have been forced to coexist. You are conflicted souls, a ragtag group of unlikely heroes trying to find your place in The New World Order. This entertaining family game will have you testing your Faith in Humanity against the Apocalypse Effect!  Choose alien, human or hybrid characters, select a mission, work to collect resources, increase your character's stats, and purchase the upgraded gear you will need to complete your mission. You will be challenged by events that force you to balance risk with reward to make choices that will allow you to complete your mission in the allotted time. This go around we'll be testing some iterations on character alignment, debt tokens, side quests and how these affect game play.

If you can't get enough of the Canadian election, come try it out in tabletop form! In this competitive Euro-style area control game, players simulate an election campaign by trying to influence different regions of the country in order to have the most seats at game's end. This game has been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years, but it felt like the right time to dust it off and get it back to the table. No political experience or expertise required!

GAME: Basic Dungeoneering
DESIGNER: Ferne Hebig

DURATION: 120-180 mins.

An entry level build and play RPG adventure with variable build dungeons, magic spells and enchantments, awful creatures, and treasure!  No experience needed!  This fun family game is suitable for anyone from those new to dungeon crawling adventures to experienced players. Select characters, a player to be the Game Master, and follow the Quick Start Guide to begin your mission! You will be taken into the Cursed Dungeon of Thylanfae on a guided adventure through an area of unstable wild magic to fulfill your mission. Will your band of adventuring heros survive? The goal is to run a playtest to make sure it really is simple enough game play for inexperienced RPG players while still being a fun game experienced players can take out just to have a bit of fun. A mix of experienced and inexperienced RPG players would be great!

GAME: Honour and Steel and Garden Variety Flower Frenzy!
DESIGNER: Nathan Ottenson
PLAYERS: 2-3
START TIME: 12:00 pm
DURATION: 10-15 mins. each game

Honour and Steel is a quick, card drafting fighting game.  Each card has a two separate move sets, a 'left hand' and 'right hand' value.  Players take turns attacking and defending, playing the cards they believe will do the most damage.  If a player loses their left or right hand, they can no longer use that move set listed on the card.  If a player takes damage on both arms, they lose.  If a player gets hit in the body twice, they lose.

Garden Variety Flower Frenzy! is a quick, simple tile-lying card game for 1-3 players.  Build the biggest garden of your flower type while avoiding the weeds. The rules are simple. The card you play must always cover a portion of a previously played card.  You cannot completely cover a previously played card. Score points groups of 3 or more, 1 point per flower. Subtract points for any clusters of weeds 2 or more that is touching a cluster of flowers. 1 point per weed.

GAME: Crimewave
DESIGNER: Dastardly Fun Games (David Bagwell & co.)
PLAYERS: 2-6
START TIME: 3:00 pm; 4:00 pm
DURATION: 45-60 mins.

Crimewave is played in a series of rounds. Each round represents an instance of an ongoing turf war in Denton City. In each round, players earn points by using the abilities of certain cards or by having the card with the highest value once the play deck is empty. As soon as one player has accumulated enough points, they are declared the Crime Lord of the city, allowing them to bask in the glory of their underworld power.

DETAILS: 9-16 Fallen Family, Broken Name: The Goblinblood Wars that ravaged Isger more than a decade ago didn't just set fire to villages; it destroyed families. Among these was the wealthy Irrica family, all but one who perished during this tumultuous time. Now that Isger's government has begun declassifying reports, the Pathfinder Society has learned that the Irricas commanded some supernatural force that convinced even the mighty House Thrune to give them space. With these leads now public knowledge, the Society sends the PCs to piece together the broken family's history and recover this secret weapon before it falls into the wrong hands. GM: Alex

With a unique window into the past, it falls to the PCs to identify these original leaders and the secrets they buried before donning the helms—in the process helping to unveil a hidden threat to the Society. DETAILS: Pathfinder 2nd Edition released recently and now debuts at Prairie Game Expo. This is a good opportunity for new and experienced players to try 2nd edition. The GM will run a table whenever enough players are available. The GM is available run sessions throughout the day as interest demands.
Quest #1: The Sandstone Secret: When the Pathfinder Society receives word of a promising, unexplored ruin in Osirion, the PCs set out to uncover the site's secrets. Yet upon arriving, the PCs learn that a different group of Pathfinders has already entered the ruins. Has there been some mistake, is the site's magic playing tricks on everyone, or is there something more nefarious afoot? GM: Corey H.

DETAILS: Splintered Worlds: To Live and Die on Eox, Tracking the Cult of the Devourer, the heroes travel to the asteroid belt called the Diaspora, but they must face space pirates and other treacherous dangers of the asteroid field to find the cult's hidden command post. What the heroes learn in the Field of the Lost takes them to the dead world of Eox, where they must survive both the undead inhabitants of the planet and clandestine agents of the officially disavowed Corpse Fleet. Only then do the heroes learn that the Devourer cult is headed for a distant star system in search of clues to the location of an alien superweapon! GM: Melvin
