KeyForge: Dawn of Discovery - Week #1

DESCRIPTION

Enter a world where anything is possible in KeyForge! In the center of the universe hangs the Crucible, an artificial world built from the pieces of countless planets. You will step into the role of a mighty Archon, racing to forge keys that unlock the Crucible's hidden Vaults - before your opponent does!

Dawn of Discovery events are exploratory and welcoming events that encourage new players to learn from players already experienced with KeyForge.

There are three weekly events and then one final monthly event. The purpose of the weekly events is for players to become familiar with KeyForge and their own unique decks. The final monthly event is a chance for players to use everything they've learned against their opponents.

Each Dawn of Discovery event needs a minimum of 4 players. Events that do not trigger will be rescheduled.

WEEK 1 FORMAT

The first Dawn of Discovery event will be a sealed format event. Each player will buy 1 KeyForge deck from ComicReaders Downtown ($13.99 + tax) during event registration. At sealed tournaments, players are given only a few moments to look through it before they begin playing.

Players will need to bring all other game components with them (tokens, chain trackers, status cards). Due to the limited availability of the Call of Archons starter set which contains official game tokens, players will be allowed to bring suitable substitute tokens. When players are using substitutes, the player needs to show and explain the use of their substitutes to their opponent prior to the beginning of the match. This is to avoid any confusion regarding what the substitutes represent during the course of the match.

Each round is a single-game match. Report the win / loss to the tournament leader.

A win = 1 point
A loss = 0 points

The number of rounds is determined by the number of players. There are 3 rounds if there are 4 - 8 players. There are 4 rounds if there are 9 - 16 players.

Each match in a round is 35 minutes.

The first player in a match is determined in a random manner-- such as a toss of a coin.

The first player draws a starting hand of seven cards while the second player draws a starting hand of six cards.

Going to Time

When time is called for the round, the player who is currently taking their turn finishes their turn. If that player does not achieve victory by the end of their turn, then their opponent may take one last turn. If neither player has achieved victory (forged three Keys) at the end of the opponent's last turn, they must follow the steps below, in order, to determine who receives a win for the current game.

1. Each player who has 6 or more Æmber forges 1 Key (removing the 6 Æmber from their pool as usual). Cards that affect Æmber costs have no effect during this step. Each player can only forge 1 key from this step.

2. The player with the most Keys forged is the winner. If there is a tie, proceed to step 3.

3. The player with the most remaining Æmber in their pool is the winner. If there is still a tie, proceed to step 4.

4. Each player selects one of their houses. Then, each player totals the number of friendly creatures in play of that house and adds the amount of bonus Æmber from that house's cards still in their hand. This is that player's "potential Æmber." The player with the most potential Æmber is the winner. If there is still a tie, proceed to step 5.

5. The first player is the winner.

PRIZES

Prizes for Dawn of Discovery events are handed out based upon a player's ranking.

Participation: The Top 8 players who participate in the event receives one Active House card of their choice, while supplies last.

Top Four: Each player receives one set of stun cards.

Winner: The overall winner of the weekly event receives one set of damage tokens.
