Bixby's Formula De League
2012 - Season 4

WHAT IS FORMULA DE?
The Game
Formula Dé is a fast-paced racing game in which the cars' top speeds are limited by having to end a certain number of turns in each curve of the racetrack. This can be tricky, because although players can regulate their speeds by choosing which gear to be in and each gear allows a certain range of movement, the exact amount is determined randomly. Great fun for a big group.

Bixbys Formula De League Promo

WHAT IS THE LEAGUE STRUCTURE?
This is the fourth season for the BFD League. Bixby's Formula De League play consists of a season of six races. Ten players called race managers each choose a fictitious driver that their racer for the season. These drivers are placed in five teams of two drivers each. The drivers compete throughout the season by earning points for their driver and their team. At the end of the season, the driver with the most points is the top driver and the team with the most points is the top team. Competition runs high and the roar of the engines is mild compared to the roar of the crowd when someone's car blows up.

Tracks For This Season
Race 1 - Formula Dé Circuit 16 - Zeltweg (Austria)
Race 2 - Formula Dé Circuit 24 - Portland (USA)
Race 3 - Formula Dé Circuit 03 - Zandvoort 2 (Netherlands)
Race 4 - Formula Dé Circuit 11 - Watkins Glen (USA)
Race 5 - Formula D Circuit 3 - Singapore
Race 6 - Formula Dé Circuit 27 - Detroit (USA)

How are Team Colors Chosen for Season
The team with the lowest points based on the players from previous season get first choice, 2nd lowest has next choice, and so on. In case of a tie, determine randomly.

League Entry Fee
Each race manager must contribute a SIX PACK of beer from their sponsor to the prize pool as an entry fee.

Prize Structure
If there is a tie in any category, most 1st place finishes, followed by second place, and so on.
06 Beer: The winner of each race, (not including pre-season) receives 1 beer for the win.
18 Beer: The team with the most points at the end of the season.
12 Beer: The second place team at the end of the season.
08 Beer: The third place team at the end of the season.
04 Beer: The fourth place team at the end of the season.
02 Beer: The fifth place team at the end of the season. (Cool isn't it? Everyone's a winner)
10 Beer: The best driver for the season, (that survived), receives bonus beer.

League Points System
1st Place – 13 Points
2nd Place – 11 Points
3rd Place – 9 Points
4th Place – 7 points
5th Place – 6 Points
6th Place – 5 Points
7th Place – 4 Points
8th Place – 3 Points
9th Place – 2 Points
10th Place - 1 Point

Cars must finish the race to earn points. If a Race Manager cannot make race day, a substitute player can play in place of the the absent person. Note that drivers are tied to players. A substitute player means that a substitute driver is used.  Substitute drivers still earn points for the team they are racing for.

If both players miss the race and there are no substitutes available, the cars will sit in their starting positions on the track and will stay there until:
(A) A driver shows up that can race for the team.
(B) The cars are lapped, at which point they are removed. Note. When being lapped, the dead cars do not block or interfere with the track as it is assumed they would have been removed earlier.

What are the League Rules In Play
The rules published with Formula D are the official rules used by the league. They can be located as two attachments at the bottom of this thread posting (Basic Rules & Advanced Rules) in PDF format.
(1) All rules in play except weather.
(2) All races will be TWO laps.
(3) In addition, the following house rules are in play:

Over-Revving
Once per turn, any driver may add movement to their roll by "over-revving" their engine. To do this they must spend one engine point. When spending this point the car does not leave a debris counter. The extra movement gained is determined by the gear the car is in. Using all of the extra spacing is mandatory unless you wish to burn brake points to drop a movement.
Over-revving benefits depend on the gear you are in:
   1st - 2nd: 1 space
   3rd - 4th: 2 spaces
   5th - 6th: 3 spaces

Coasting
When an engine blows, you go down one gear each turn trying to either finish, or make the pits. If you make the pits you are allowed to fix one engine point. (The engine repair point must come from the team allocation of remaining repair points). While coasting, the car MUST shift down every turn (thus is is gradually burning off speed it had built up prior to blowing the engine). If, after rolling the 1st gear die, the car has neither reached its pit nor finished the race, the car is eliminated.

Car Crash Effects on Future Races
Whenever a car is eliminated from the game due to a collision or crash, (Body, Suspension, Brakes, Tires), roll a d20 and consult the table below:
• 01 – 01: Driver Killed. Car misses next race while a new driver can be added to the team.
(Team is short a driver next race) (Can buy in additional driver for a six pack and waive penalty).
• 02 – 03: Driver injury. Driver misses next race while being rehabilitated.
(Substitute driver can race for team next race so team is not down a car).
• 04 – 20: No adverse effects, take a driver training course though. :)

Pole Positions
The pole positions are awarded in reverse order of the previous race finish. The first race positioning is determined by driver points from the previous season. Ties are adjudicated with a random die roll.

Pit Lanes
Blocking never occurs in the pit lane. Cars may pass through other cars. No two cars may occupy the same space.

Pit Stops & Repair Points
Each driver gets two repair points that that can use in a full pit stop to repair items on their car, same as in the official rules. However, in team play, one driver can give his/her team mate his repair points to use for extra repairs thus each team has a pool of four repair points. For each repair point used over two, the driver must exit the pits in one gear lower than fourth. For instance:
0 Repair Points - Can exit pits in fourth Gear or lower
1 Repair Points - Can exit pits in fourth Gear or lower
2 Repair Points - Can exit pits in fourth Gear or lower
3 Repair Points - Can exit pits in third Gear or lower
4 Repair Points - Can exit pits in second Gear or lower

Summary of Order of Movement from Rulebook
What is the order of movement for cars in and near the pits?
1. Cars on the track past the pit entrance
2. Cars in the pit lane
3. Cars in the pit stands
4. Cars on the main track that haven't reached the pit entrance.

THE WHERE & WHEN & WHO
Where are League Events
The Bixby Formula De League is hosted at the residence of Matt Robertson (Bixby). All race events and race night signups are located in Bixby's private venue section of this website. The league structure is posted publicly so the structure can be openly shared. All racers and spare drivers for the league need to register for each event separately.

When are League Events
This league is in place for 2012. There are six races total for the season, and the race frequency is likely to be once a month. Some months there will not be a league race, the schedule will allow for a few missed months and we can still finish the season in the 2012 calendar year. Also, we are shooting for the last Thursday of every month for RACE NIGHT. Race times are at 6:30pm. Please show up by 6:15 to configure your car. Quite often there are pre-race victuals and libations at the Normanview Brewsters at 5:00pm.

Who can play in League Events
The BFD League is generally limited to members who have access to Bixby's Venue on this site. The league is limited to ten players each season, but often looks for spare drivers to substitute when regular players cannot make a race night. If you would like more information or want to know how to get involved, send a private message to Matt Robertson to learn more.

League Standings - Race 01

Ivana Vin was so close to finishing the race with 1 remaining body point, alas, she has caught the curse of Willie Survive.
Record low number of debris on the track for our league ONLY FIVE DEBRIS?!?!?

League Standings - Race 02

The power of money. Yep. A harmless stack of three debris in a corner along with 3 other debris in the corner turned into a corner from hell that claimed two cars. The bet on the middle of the table was too much temptation for Colin. Damn near made it too. :) He did collect on the bet and Morty just happened to follow his car and run over the wreckage. Good times. :)

League Standings - Race 03

Fast track. Lots of cars screaming around the track in 6th gear. Willie Survive is back to his DNF antics. The other drivers seem to have it in for the veteran driver and managed to damage Willie's car before he crossed the start line of the race. Stan Still lost a little driver confidence as he blew out his suspension and wound up in the hospital with a ruptured spleen and a bruised ego. Cal Naughton Jr. and Mikaelai Beekertoovini both blew their engines. Rough race for some cars.
