Hey everyone,

So I can't do Strategy Saturday in December - the dates and other commitments just don't line up for me. However, Henning has been good enough to "pinch-hit" this month by hosting a games night in my stead. This means that there will be a change of venue (see below). The times will remain the same: 7pm until midnight-ish. Henning is up to feature the game Octopus' Garden by Roberta Taylor of Calgary. This is the first winner of the Canadian Game Design awarded in 2010.

Be sure to note the info below!

Hope you can make it and have a good time,
Allan

Prairie Spruce Cohousing
1625 Badham Blvd. (Off broad by the CBC building)
At the enterphone, dial 3022* and Henning will let you in.
Dec 7 7:00pm until close

Hey everyone,

This month we will be meeting on the 3rd Saturday. A heads up for December - Strategy Saturday will most likely be cancelled. The only day that may work is December 14. However, as of now the church won't be available.

For this month, Cory will be featuring A Feast for Odin. In this game players have to hunt, gather basic materials, refine those materials, develop their production-buildings, build/buy ships, and raid settlements. The resulting earnings are placed on the players' board in the best possible pattern to produce income and (later) victory points. This game has a strong rating and plays up to four.

!!!If you have a game you'd like to play and draw some attention to, feel free to volunteer for future Feature Game slots. Just drop me a note and I'll see if we can't get your game in the spotlight.

Strategy Saturday will be at Argyle Road Baptist Church (3510 Argyle Rd) from 7pm to midnight.  As usual we'll have our snack counter open so feel free to contribute a drink or something to munch on.  And feel free to bring along friends (and to forward this invite).

Hope you'll be there,

Allan

Hey all,

Strategy Saturday is going to be a week earlier in October. The second weekend is Thanksgiving so we'll avoid having a games night during a time when families are looking to spend time together. As well, note that we will be upstairs as the basement has another group meeting there.

The Feature Game will be Brass: Birmingham. This is a sequel to Martin Wallace's fantastic game Brass: Lancashire (one of my favourites). Brass: Birmingham continues the story of competing entrepreneurs in Birmingham during the industrial revolution, between the years of 1770-1870. Like its predecessor, players will seek to develop, build, and establish industries and networks, in an effort to exploit low or high market demands. Familiar ventures such as cotton mills, coal mines, iron works, canals, and railroads make their return in addition to potteries, factories, and breweries. All this is played out on a gorgeous new map which ensures the game will be fresh to both new and old players alike.

Hi all,

The second weekend of September is coming right up and that means Strategy Saturday. Most of you know I aim for the 2nd weekend of the month, however a heads up - the games night may move around a bit in the next few months. For example next month in October we'll avoid the holiday weekend and meet on the 5th.

Cory has volunteered to feature the game Trickerion: Legends of Illusion. Players take on the roles of rival stage illusionists, each with their own strengths and characteristics. They are striving for fortune and fame in a competition hosted by a legendary magician, looking for a successor worthy of the mighty Trickerion Stone, which is rumored to grant supernatural power to its owner.

Hi all,

August is here and so is the heat. We will be in the basement of ARBC where it will be cool and comfortable. There also is an elevator for anyone who needs assistance with navigating the stairs.

I'll be featuring the game Raiders of the North Sea. In this game players are seeking to impress the Viking Chieftain by raiding unsuspecting settlements. Players will need to assemble a crew, collect provisions and journey north to plunder gold, iron and livestock. There is glory to be found in battle, even at the hands of the Valkyrie. This is NOT a war game. At its core it is worker placement/set collection game that has receive very good reviews. Check it out:

Hi everyone,

I know that most are aware of this but I want to point out again that I welcome people to take on the Feature Game slot at Strategy Saturday. The advantage of volunteering is that you'll be sure to play a game that you want to experience. The upcoming months are still open. If there is a game you'd like to play, please let me know.

For July, Mark has volunteered to feature Agra. The birthday of the Indian ruler Akbar is quickly approaching. This is your opportunity to gain his favour. On your land in Agra, you cultivate and harvest cotton and turmeric. You possess a forest from which you produce wood, as well as a small, but very profitable sandstone quarry. By trading and processing your wares, you can obtain more luxurious goods, which you will then use to woo notables as they make their way into the capital. Of course, your rivals have the same plan; you must use your wits to outsmart them as Akbar's birthday draws near...
