An Important Announcement About The Future Of SaskGames And Chewsday Challenge

Recently the Executive Board of SaskGames – Lori McKenzie, Nicole Persram, Murray Bennett, Mike McCallion and Jill Fauth have been looking at the future of our community.

Times have changed. The board game hobby has evolved as more people are doing private gaming. The pandemic and shutdown had a significant effect as well – concerns about public events, cocooning, changing interests, priorities and routines, etc. As a result SaskGames and Chewsday Challenge has seen waning attendance. Since we are a volunteer organization this has lead to more difficulty with volunteer participation for many events and functions.

SaskGames has ongoing costs for our web presence and administration and the pandemic shutdown prevented us from doing any fund-raising. Our Executive looked at many options but the current fiscal responsibility is too much to continue and we could not in good conscience pass this on to others.

For these reasons, as well as a few others beyond your control, the board reluctantly has made the difficult decision to dissolve SaskGames and the Chewsday Challenge event.

So, where does that leave us...

Chewsday Challenge will continue for a short while. We expect that SaskGames will host the last Chewsday Challenge on Feb. 7th. Boston Pizza and Comic Readers have pledged their continued support for this time – we can not thank them enough for their support now and in the past.

We anticipate that the website will be decommissioned by mid-February.

After that, Boston Pizza has extended their welcome to all of us to continue to use Tuesdays for unstructured gaming. We are hopeful that others may step in and take up the challenge of hosting public game nights again.

Over the years SaskGames has grown beyond gaming to include successful fund-raising endeavours and participation in many community-based events. We leave behind an amazing legacy of lasting friendships and community connections.

That is all for now. We hope to see everyone around the game table in the future.

Thank you for all of the memories.

On Wednesday, March 14th, 2018, 6PM CST, SaskGames will be performing major infrastructure upgrades to the SaskGames website.

There will be scheduled down time for approximately 4-7 days. We will be using this time to add more capacity to our infrastructure and speed up our overall service.

To ensure uptime and stability of the platform, we are performing this upgrade in between community events so that we can ensure a smooth transition. During this maintenance window, the SaskGames forums will be inaccessible. Public access to the site will resume immediately after the maintenance window.

We appreciate your understanding during this time.
