Well, I just read the local news article highlighting the giant cheque you guys donated to the Hunger in Moose Jaw charity from your GAX proceeds.  Well done gentlemen, I keep getting floored by all the good that you keep doing in the name of gaming.  It was a great winter GAX this year, and I look forward to the next one in a few months time.   :thumb-up

Oh my goodness, what's going on?!?  First I heard the Winter GAX guys on the radio a week or two ago promoting gaming, and now I just saw a piece about gaming in the Moose Jaw community on Global News this morning.  Word on this year's GAX is everywhere all of a sudden, way to go!

Have you given other interviews as well?  I want to make sure I catch all of them.

Well I sure am looking forward to going to this winter's GAX again.  I'm even lending a room in my house to a friend from Alberta coming back just to attend this (he's a video gamer, but I'm working on fixing that).

I saw on a Facebook post that it's a new guy running the board game side.  Do you know if he has anything new or different planned compared to previous GAX events?

I'll sign up for.the last spot in Macao if still.available, thanks.

Sounds like a good plan.  Kudos to you for organizing this.

Sign me up for the last slot in the Andean Abyss game please.

I'd be interested in going in on this as well

Game Discussion / Re: What game is hitting your table?

So this past weekend some good folks in Moose Jaw held another successful GAX event, our weekend-long boardgame/LAN party.  Seventy five people were in attendance, and there were a lot of first timers mixed in with the returning gamers.  There were a few games that kept coming out:

One Night Ultimate Werewolf is a favorite amongst many in the group, and switching around the roles in the base game and the Daybreak expansion helped prevent the game from getting stale.  After ten pm or so the table was replaced with the Cards Against Humanity crowd.  Well, to each his/her own I suppose.

After the LoL tournament was over there was a gamer from Alberta sending players dungeon crawling with his Descent, Journeys in the Dark 2nd edition.  I'm a new fan of that one and I'm glad I got the chance to try it out, even if I died a horrible death by giant spiders.  Twice.

Several kids came by, and so in between Mario Kart and Smash Bros we brought out King of Tokyo, Flick em Up, and Roar-a-saurus, among others.  All were a lot of fun, but I think the kids especially enjoyed playing Ca$h n Guns with the parents, and it kept getting requested.

Moose Jaw's local board game store owner Callum came out to demo a few games.  He showed off the latest edition of Thunderbirds to a very interested crowd, and then finished off the night with some classic Smash Up.

A lot of D & D 5th edition came out, with two to four tables playing through almost all of Friday and Saturday.  There were experienced players, newbies, and even some of the kids keeping the volounteer GMs busy.

I think the most-played game over the weekend had to be Dead of Winter.  My own game group has no interest in playing it, and I have now realized that they are the odd ones out because it was a smash hit.  I'm sure I set the game up for various groups five or six times.  One of my favourite parts of the evening was when a group of players set it up without my help late Saturday evening, but they didn't realize that only ONE betrayal mission card had to be shuffled in, and the game ended in a gong show with four of the five people being betrayers.  They may have woke up the neighbors with that gong show.

There were also a few other games that I got a chance to play myself.  The Resistance, Castles of Burgundy, Roll for the Galaxy, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, and Arkham Horror with four expansions all came out to help turn my brain to mush by Sunday afternoon.  It was worth it though, and I'm looking forward to the next one in August.

Recently, the local gaming community lost a dear member of our group.  Shawn Friesen, a local Moose Jaw gamer, passed suddenly and unexpectedly a short while ago.  Shawn and his children have been active members of the local gaming community, and he will be sorely missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing his big smiling face.

We will be donating all net proceeds from this winter's GAX to the Regina branch of the Arthritis Society in Shawn's memory, as per his family's request.  It was unanimous amongst ourselves that this small token felt like the right thing to do.  There will be several extra events this year, including raffle draws, a LoL tournament, and a pirate's dice tournament to help raise money for this cause.  All extra events will still be free for attendants to participate in, with any voluntary donations appreciated.  Those who can't make it out to Moose Jaw this weekend may choose to still donate, and they can do so at

Twice a year the local gaming community in Moose Jaw get together for a full weekend of gaming in all of its various forms, known by us as GAX.

GAX is organized by a fine group of lads that have come to call themselves the Moose Jaw Gamer's Association.
- The event has a high speed internet network for PC and console gamers to come together into one huge LAN party.
- Projection screens show off some of the latest console video games.
- Plenty of old console games will also be set up so you can revisit those games from years past.

Computer or console games not your thing?  Me neither!  Come and join the boardgame and rpg side of the party, where both organized events and an open gaming atmosphere will be set up. Try out some of the games provided with one of our volunteers happy to teach it to you, or bring your own favorites and meet new people.  Play a weekend long RPG campaign marathon with one of our volunteer GMs.  Heck, bring your own friends and just come for the free food and drink, that's okay too.

The entire weekend event is $10, or $30 if you want to join in on the LAN party side.  All proceeds from GAX will be going towards local charities and other good causes.  Location and times are below.

Hi everyone, I'll just send a quick shout for anyone looking to get some gaming in this evening.  Our GAX event here in Moose Jaw has been going amazing so far.  We may even break our attendance record for our summer event this weekend! New and retro games displayed on projector screens, D&D 5th ed. sessions, a League of Legends tournament, plenty of board and card games currently in play, and there's a designer from Saskatoon demoing his new RPG today.  There will also be free pizza brought in for dinner for everyone this evening.  Thanks to everyone who has shown up so far!
