Game Discussion / Looking For Players - Arcadia Quest
« on: October 19, 2019, 11:18:30 PM »
Good day everyone,

I've had plenty of success looking for D&D players (thank you everyone for your interest) and I've now got multiple steady campaigns going. I still have free time and I've been itching like crazy to get one of my favourite board games to the table: Arcadia Quest.

For the uninitiated, AQ is a tactical board game that plays somewhat similar to Dungeons & Dragons, minus the role playing. (Well, when I've played we always like to insert our own stories as we play, but anyways) Up to 4 players build a team of 3 heroes and try to overcome enemies and each other in pursuit of different goals. In each scenario, there are usually 2 Player versus Environment goals, and a number of Player vs Player Goals equal to the number of players. In order to beat the scenario, a player must complete 3 goals; at least one must be a PvE goal, and at least one must be a PvP goal. As you play each scenario, defeating enemies will net you rewards in the form of gold coins. If you complete the PvE goals you can earn special rewards; at the end of every scenario you can use your gold to purchase treasure in the form of upgrades for your team for the next scenario.

A typical campaign is 6 scenarios long, and it gets more challenging as you go on. There are also different options for a short co-operative campaign after you finish the base one. (I also have about 4 different campaigns to choose from, and in those campaigns, you actually get to select different scenarios every time, so there's a lot of variety.)

In any case, it's a really fun game. The biggest down side is that it *is* a little luck heavy, since the mechanics rely heavily on die rolls. If anyone is interested in learning the game, I could potentially schedule it for a Chewsday Challenge or something as a demo some time. Like I said, it's one of my favourites. The minis are beautiful (I'll paint them one day, I swear!!) and the swinginess of the die rolls can sometimes make for some hilarious moments.

I'd like to get 3 other players to get to the maximum amount. Right now, I'm leaning towards Saturday or Sundays, afternoon or evenings.

If you're interested please reply or DM. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Check out the link for more details on the game and to look at the pretty pretty components. I have basically ALL the expansions for this game that I can think of.

Good day, it's that time of year where we all start cleaning out shelves and cupboards. Me, I'm also trying to shrink down my board game collection down to just The Good Stuff (tm) since my friends and I tend to play about the same 10 games anyways. In any case, all games must go! I'm not really looking for trades right now. The only games I can possibly think of adding to my personal collection would be:

A Feast For Odin
Civilization (Fantasy Flight Games)

But, I'd prefer cash at this point. I'm setting what I think are reasonable prices, but I might have some wiggle room, especially if someone picks up multiple games. In any case, here's-a-my list, in no particular order:

Legendary Encounters: Alien - $50
Legendary Encounters: Predator - $50
Formula D + Extra Boards: $40 - Sold
Arctic Scavengers: $15
Castle Ravenloft: $25 - Sold
World War Z: Free with any purchase
Pamplona: Free with any purchase
Ricochet Robots: $15 - Pending
Tokaido: $30
Penny Arcade: Gamers vs Darkness + Expansion & Promo cards- $40
Warcraft the Board Game: $5 - Sold
Tobago: $20 - Sold
Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords card game: $25
Ascension (base game plus many expansions): $50
Carcassonne: $10 each, - Sold
Africana: $10 - Sold
Risk Godstorm (still in wrap): $30
Assorted Marvel Dicemasters: ?
Zombies!!! - $5 (fairly old, all components still intact) - Sold
Quarriors: $15 (I think it's missing one of the dice, couldn't get a replacement)
Shadows over Camelot: $20 (missing one of the characters fresh out of the box, couldn't get a replacement, still playable with a proxy token of some kind)
Settlers of Catan: Free with purchase... Sold

If anyone has any questions about components or quality, let me know. For games with expansions, I tend to mix stuff together, so I'm selling them together. I still have boxes for pretty much everything, to the best of my knowledge, and those can/will be included with purchase as well.

Role Playing Games / D&D Group looking for extra player
« on: April 22, 2019, 06:49:21 PM »
Howdy y'all, I'm representing my D&D group here in Regina. We've got about 4 people in our group right now, and we think we have room for one more person. Our GM is looking to run the Dragon Heist module, which if we keep a similar pace to the one we set with Curse of Strahd, we'd expect (I think) about 3 months. In the past, we've had a really solid run of pre-scheduling all our games.

I think the person we're looking for:

-Can have any level of experience
-Doesn't necessarily need books (we can share if you don't have any)
-Can commit to a schedule (we arrange a game, then schedule our next one after the session is over)
-Is okay with hanging out with a handful of middle-aged dudes I guess?

If anyone is interested please reply or send me a PM for more details. We're probably looking at Saturday nights.

So, with 5th edition being out a while now, I'm assuming everyone has left all their 4th ed. Stuff by the roadside by now. I know it's completely vanished from store shelves. I happen to love 4th edition, and wouldn't mind picking up some of the books I don't have already. Off the top of my head I currently own:

PHB 1 and 2
Monster Manual 1 -3
DMG
Martial Power 1
Eberon (I think)
Forgotten Realms
Open Grave

...and I think that's it. If anyone's made the switch to fifth and is looking to unload some books, let me know!

I'm also still looking for old Carcassonne expansions, and have a tiny bit of my M:tG collection that I haven't unloaded yet to get rid of.

Video Games / Overwatch?
« on: May 31, 2016, 03:21:09 AM »
Newest Blizzard game! I'm rocking both the PC and PS4 Editions for some stupid reason. Although I've mostly been gaming with a few peeps on PS4 every other night for an hour or so. Anyone looking for a group of mediocre-at-best players? I mostly just wanna group up with people who wanna have fun who don't care *too much* about winning and all that business.

I refuse to interact with the gaming community at large, because bleh. Ugh. Nope. Much easier to find decent people first then chill with them instead of having to wade through the online wasteland.

Archive of Marketplace Items / Looking to trade Carcassonne
« on: March 20, 2016, 10:06:18 PM »
Hi there everyone, I'm looking to trade my copies of the 2014/15 edition of Carcassonne and the first expansion (Traders & Builders) for anything from the 2012 edition instead. I won a copy of the base game during last  year's Carc league, and noticed that the copy of Traders & Builders was for the same edition. The rest of my Carc stuff is from the previous edition, so I'd prefer stuff that matches the tiles. I'm not sure which other expansions I really want, so I'm mostly interested in getting a copy of Traders & Builders and either some other expansions, or just a copy of the base game. (Nothing wrong with doubling up on the base tiles I guess)

Both games have been opened; the expansion has been played once, and I've simply examined the components from the base game, so everything is in pristine condition.

Archive of Leagues / X-Wing League Season 1 (Jan/Feb) Signup/Standings
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:12:57 PM »
Hi everyone! Really glad to see all the interest in starting a league. It looks like we're good to go, so I am now officially taking sign-ups from all interested parties. You can find all standings in this post as they are updated. To sign-up, just indicate you'd like to do so in this thread and include your real name. Basic rules:
This will be a casual season, meaning squad size can vary from game to game. Standard 100 point squads are recommended, especially for evenings where we might not have enough time to finish epic games. However, if your opponent and yourself can agree to a set size and try finish your game in a timely fashion, you are welcome to build your team as you see fit. All players will be awarded 1 point for participating, and an extra 2 points (so 3 points total) for a win. You can record two games per week for your total standings. If necessary, we may look at having catch-up games in the interest of fairness. Other than that, it's recommended that you make a post on each event if you plan on attending so we know how many people will be at a given event, and so you can request a certain type of game/find an opponent ahead of time. I should be at most events, so if finding an opponent is a challenge for anyone, I'll try to help accommodate everyone as necessary.

Archive of Leagues / X-Wing League/Organized play
« on: January 04, 2016, 11:07:45 PM »
Hi there, I noticed there was an X-Wing league sponsored by Tramps, and it just wrapped up a few days ago. I'm wondering if there is interesting in starting another one? Just got into the game a couple weeks ago, and I'd love to play it on a regular basis. I was going to suggest it for CC, but it kinda has a big footprint, so I figured it'd be best to do it at a store or something. I noticed FFG's website had some interesting info here: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/more/x-wing-organized-play-events/

Hey y'all, so apparently Macao by Stefan Feld has been out of print since like... 2009? I dunno. Anyways, I played it for the second time at PGX and I've decided I'd like to add it to my collection. I've been looking around online, and it seems like if I want it, I'll either have to pay around $100 or so plus shipping, or overseas for like $40 plus like, $80 in shipping. In either case, that's just way too high. If anyone has a copy they're looking to get rid of that isn't in terrible shape and all the components are there, I'd love to take it off your hands. Since it *is* out of print, I'm okay with paying a bit extra so long as it's in good shape.

I'd also offer trades, but I don't think there's a whole lot in my collection right now that anyone's really looking for. (That I want to get rid of, anyways)

Archive of Game Discussion / Legendary Challenge!
« on: July 25, 2015, 06:28:57 PM »
So, I had this idea for Legendary that could potentially be turned into a league in the future, but right now will exist as a fun challenge. I welcome anyone who has the game to join in. I'll note that I have all the expansions that currently exist, so if you don't it might be difficult to participate, but I have a work around for that. Kinda. The way it works is every week, I'm going to post up a Mastermind, Scheme and the villains/henchmen for that scheme. Anyone wants to participate submits a team, and you're locked into that team for the entirety of the challenge. To give a little bit of wiggle room, teams will consist of 7 super heroes. Each time you attempt a challenge, you can build your team from those 7 heroes. Once the challenge is up, you can attempt it at any time. I feel I should mention that one card in particular is extra important, and that's the 'new recruits' card from Legendary Villains; it's extremely useful and I play with it every game. It's the only card from Villains that'll PROBABLY be used for this current run of challenges, so if you don't have the expansion I'd recommend proxying it up. The basic details are that it costs (2) to recruit, has 1 fight and essentially reads: "Draw a card, then return new recruits back to the new recruit pile". It doesn't sound like much, but they're incredibly useful.

So this week, the challenge is pretty easy. It is:
Red Skull, Destroy the Helicarrier with Hydra, Masters of Evil, Radiation villains and Hand Ninjas and Sentinels for henchmen. We played with four players, so the numbers may need changing; if you're interested and you need to add enemy groups let me know and I'll suggest ones to add/subtract.

The score to beat is 27 points this week. Our currently unnamed team consists of: Mr.Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Angel, Emma Frost, Ice Man, Black Widow and we had Star-Lord sitting on our bench.

Please, feel free to join in, post your scores and submit any questions or comments you might have. If it turns out being fun, I may turn it into an actual league in the future. (Probably after summer at the earliest)

Archive of Game Discussion / Customized Play Mats?
« on: July 10, 2015, 02:53:33 AM »
Hey there, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a website or anyone local that makes custom play mats for games. I'm specifically thinking of for Marvel Legendary. The idea had in mind was a simple design that a spot that said "deck" or "library", one that says "play area", one that says "discard pile" and one that says "victory pile". I think it'd work best on a felt mat, like the newer games have, very similar to most mouse pads. (just bigger).

I think having something like that would make teaching the game (and really, you could it make universal for other deckbuilders) a lot easier, and it make it easier for newer players to understand.

Archive of Miscellaneous Events / ShakCon 1! July 17-19
« on: June 25, 2015, 12:40:40 PM »
Hi! So I've decided to throw a small board game con at my home on the weekend before my birthday. I need to make it public for a few different reasons, but I must mention that attendance is by invite only. HOWEVER! If you are looking for something to do that weekend AND I have gamed with you before, talk to me and I can probably give you an invite.

Here's the basics:
Things kick off Friday evening, then start again at 11am Saturday and Sunday. There is a cost for entry; $5/day (even Friday) or $10 for the ultra deluxe weekend pass! The proceeds go to paying for snacks and drinks; any extra will go towards our PWYF team. There'll be your standard fare of chips, pop, nuts, fruit, veggies etc, as well as BBQ burgers and hotdogs Saturday and Sunday. If there's anything you'd like to bring to grill up, or beverages (regular or alcoholic) please feel free!

As for the actual gaming, the plan is to have four tables going at once, which will be organized below. Any questions/Suggestions/requests ask away!

Scheduling format:

Start Time
Game Name
# of players
Estimated run time
BGG link or screenshot of game.

...I'll make it look good when I get home from work.
