The Regina Game Forge is a group of tabletop game designers based in Regina who meet regularly to play test games, discuss their designs, and support each other on their journeys through the highs and lows of game design. Archive of Regina Game Forge / Public Playtest: Galactic Payload
« on: July 24, 2018, 12:04:16 AM »
The next Regina Game Forge public playtest will be of Nathan Ottenson's Galactic Payload. Nathan has been revising the game constantly, and he now has some new boards to show off. If you haven't tried it yet - or even if you have - you should try to play.

The playtest will take place at Boards N' Beans on Wednesday, August 1 at 7 pm. Contact Boards N' Beans directly to reserve your spot.

I have too many games, so please help me by purchasing some of them. All games are in EUC unless otherwise noted. Games are cross-posted on other sites. Pick up in Regina is easily arranged, although I occasionally make my way to Saskatoon.

Compounded (with Geiger, Chemical Chaos, and Methylamine expansions) - $50
The Game of Shakespeare and The Play's The Thing - $5 (for both)
Hasch Mich! (Catch Me!) - $15
In the Year of the Dragon (includes Great Wall and Super Events mini-expansion) - $35
Mille Bornes - $10
Patchwork (missing original rules and one piece that is currently replaced by a piece of cardboard) - $10 (RESERVED)
Quixo Classic - $5
Tartan Snap and Join the Clans - $5
Temporum - $35

Keep checking back for more games!

The next RGF public play test will be held on Wednesday, February 28 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, and it will be the first public play test of Rafael McRaven's Fall of the White Queen. Fall of the White Queen is a four player game in which players work in pairs to fulfill their claim on the throne. Although working well with your ally is essential - ultimately you’re goal is one of personal ascension.

The game is played as a 12 month campaign. This requires managing limited food supplies and dwindling financial resources across the four seasons. It’s easy to raze a town or attack an opponent, but success will only go to those who are able best work with their ally (and enemies).

For more questions about the Fall of the White Queen, contact Raf (jesterking). To book your spot in the play test, contact Boards N' Beans directly.

Regina Game Forge is excited to present Nathan Ottenson's Galactic Payload as our next Public Play Test at Boards N Beans on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 pm.

Galactic Payload has gone through some design tweaks and upgrades in appearance lately, and it is better than ever. For more information on the game, check out its page on BGG:

Nathan is hoping for four play testers to join him in exploring the cosmos at the end of the month. To sign up, contact Boards N' Beans and register your spot today!

Come meet some local tabletop game designers and see their designs in action! Several designers from Regina Game Forge will be present with their works in progress to demo, discuss, and play test parts of their designs. Archive of Regina Game Forge / Public Playtest: MC Biker Game
« on: July 13, 2017, 01:23:46 PM »
Regina Game Forge is hosting a playtest of MC Biker Game from local designer Devin Fifield on Wednesday, July 26 at 7:00 pm. The game is a strategic game set in the world of competing biker factions in the US, so if you're missing Jax, Gemma, and the rest of the SAMCRO crew, this might be the game for you to try! Here's the description from the designer:

Riding your motorcycle is fun, especially when you have your pals with you. You want to start your own MC, so you get five of your bike riding buddies and start your first charter. Your objective is to expand your club across the US. Along the way, you will encounter other factions you must deal with. Ally with them and forge business deals, or attack them and try to wipe them off the board. Buy and sell guns, heavy weapons or contraband to make extra money or capture seaports to import your illicit goods for cheaper; just watch your heat score - if it gets too high, you can be raided by the cops.  Be the first to control six charters to end the game, then the player with the most victory points wins.

The game will take around two and a half hours to play including teaching time and some time for feedback afterward. Devin is looking for four players, and it will be first come, first serve. Contact Boards N' Beans directly through email or Facebook to book your spot.

Make sure to like Regina Game Forge and Boards N' Beans Café on Facebook to find out about future playtests!

Archive of Regina Game Forge / Public Playtest - Pawn
« on: June 15, 2017, 11:32:18 AM »
We are excited to start hosting public playtests at Boards N' Beans. The first game featured on Wednesday, June 28 at 7:00 pm will be Thomas Boxall's Pawn. Here's the description of the game:

Pawn is a horror-based storytelling hybrid RPG/board game based in a setting where Armageddon has been raging for over 4,000 years.  Most of the players take the role of Pawns (ie. mortal humans) fighting for survival as the two Avatars (the GMs of the game) fight for control of sins and virtues in an effort to bring about Armageddon.

We will be testing two core mechanics: the Avatar card game mechanics and the Pawn RPG mechanics.  I am looking for one player with GM/DM experience to help with the Avatar testing and at least 5 players to help with the Pawn testing. Pawn playtesters do not need previous storytelling or RPG experience.

If you are interested, please contact Boards N' Beans directly through their website ( or Facebook page to register.

I have created a Facebook group called "Saskatchewan Game Designers and Play Testers" as another way to attempt to connect and collaborate, since I am certain there are designers who are not connected yet with SaskGames. It is currently a Closed Group, but if you are interested, feel free to join and connect with us there and I will approve your request.

I'm looking forward to seeing our network of game designers expand and grow!

Archive of Regina Game Forge / Design Blitz - June 3
« on: May 26, 2017, 09:39:59 AM »
Regina Game Forge is hosting another Design Blitz before schedules get too hectic for the summer!

A Design Blitz is an opportunity to get together with other game designers and play testers and work in the same space for an extended time, whether on your own designs or on others'. The time might include brainstorming, play tests, workshops, or even playing an established game or two for a brain break. You don't need to be a game designer to attend; feel free to come and join in as a play tester.

This Design Blitz will be held at Boards N Beans on Saturday, June 3 from 12 pm to 5 pm. (Remember that there is a $5 cover charge for BNB.) Bring your own design materials - laptop, prototypes, pieces, etc. - and come anytime during the afternoon to meet and collaborate. See you there!
