Saskatchewan has a growing community of board game and role playing game designers. PGX supports local game designers showcase their games by hosting a "Game Designer's Corner" in which there will be demos and play tests of local designs featured throughout the day. Contact Derek (lifeofturner) for more details!

GAME: Borders of Kanta
DESIGNER: Lorne Kletke
PLAYERS: 2-6
START TIME: 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm
DURATION: 15-20 mins. per player

Each player leads a clan regaining its wealth after a plague closed all borders across the realm, and cut the clans off from the states they controlled. Every player gets a set of six-sided tiles picturing the leader they chose. Each tile represents a group of six clan members. These members are assigned one to each tile side, and each speak one of three languages. Tiles must be placed next to at least one other tile on the board, and must speak a common language at all shared borders. Wealth is built by competing or collaborating to form rings of occupied states that become trading centres and earn gold for participating clans. Players can earn resources that hold value at the end of the game, or that can be played for advantage. Each clan has its unique abilities as well.

For more information, check out chinookgames.ca!

GAME: MC: The Biker Game
DESIGNER: Devin Fifield
PLAYERS: 4
START TIME: 1:30
DURATION: 2.5-3 hours

This game allows each player to operate their own motorcycle club. Each player will start in a different state and encounter faction groups in the form of cards, denoted by a number in each state.  Players will roll dice to determine encounter outcomes based on die faces on the cards under each tag.  Friendly side will have Peace and Ally.  Hostile side will have Intimidate and Defeat. Allied factions will give the player an extra die roll to add to combat rolls in the same state. Factions who are attacked will want retaliation, determined by a dice roll challenge under the Retaliation tag. Players will be able to expand their club to a new adjacent state when they have 12 or more members in their original charter.  Once a player has 6 charters they can call end game, and each other player gets 1 last turn.  Add up victory points to determine the winner.

For more information, check out http://www.reedgamingsystems.com/mc-the-biker-game!

GAME: The New World Order
DESIGNER: Ferne Hebig
PLAYERS: 2-4
START TIME: 11 am and 3 pm
DURATION: 60+ minutes

Years after the great war they call "the apocalypse"  has ended, humans and aliens have been forced to coexist. You are conflicted souls, a ragtag group of unlikely heroes trying to find your place in The New World Order. This entertaining family game will have you testing your Faith in Humanity against the Apocalypse effect!  hoose alien, human or hybrid characters, select a mission, work to collect resources, increase your character's stats, and purchase the upgraded gear you will need to complete your mission. You will be challenged by events that force you to balance risk with reward to make choices that will allow you to complete your mission in the allotted time. This go-around we'll be testing some new iterations on character alignment and how it affects game play.

We will be hosting an area at PGX devoted to role-playing games. If you would like to run a RPG event please let us know. Past games have included Pathfinder, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, 3 6 9 & more!

GAME: Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition
ORGANIZER: Berny H
TIME: 10:00am; 1:00pm; 4:00pm; 6:30pm
DURATION: 90 - 120 minutes per session
PLAYERS: 3 - 5 players per session
DETAILS: Berny is a newer DM looking for with other first time players or veterans who don't mind playing with those who are new. Each session is a 1st level, short Dungeons & Dragons adventure where we will have fun, kill stuff, learn a bit about D&D together, and hopefully make friends. Take on the role of a longsword-wielding hero to fight evil, or a powerful sorceress who can shoot ice from her fingertips, or help out your allies with cosmic healing as a dwarven cleric! No experience required. Ages 16+ unless otherwise permitted. You will not be required or expected to act out or use a dwarven voice, but you are most welcome to, as this is a role-playing game. Using pre-made classic characters we should be able to jump into the game fairly quickly after a brief tutorial of really basic, simple 5th edition rules. Note that this is not a serious game where every rules will be followed to the letter. The goal is to have fun and learn how to DM/play D&D.

GAME: Starfinder - Skittershot
ORGANIZER: Saskatchewan Starfinder Society
TIME: 9:00am
DURATION: approximately 3 - 5 hours
PLAYERS: 4
DETAILS: When a routine salvage operation deep in the Vast goes awry, the skittermanders Dakoyo, Gazigaz, Nako, and Quonx must board a luxurious cruise liner controlled by a rogue artificial intelligence to save their vesk boss and a group of hapless passengers. All manner of obstacles block their path to success, from malfunctioning massage tables to cybernetic undead to vermin from another plane, but if the skittermanders can work together (something skittermanders do best), they are sure to be hailed as tiny, furry heroes! That is, of course, if the passing pirate starship doesn't blast them all out of space first...

In addition to this exciting adventure, this book includes four pregenerated characters that are ready to play, with full stat blocks and backstories. The inside back cover also holds a wealth of information that will help you roleplay the six-armed creatures, such as their species' thoughts on food, religion, and how to relate to other cultures, as well as examples of skittermander slang.

Skitter Shot is an adventure for four skittermander characters who are eager to help those in need and explore a seemingly abandoned starship, written for the wildly popular Starfinder RPG.

The galaxy pauses to watch if a new generation of Starfinders can save those once lost. A mission of exploration and a mission of mercy, this return to the Scoured Stars will undoubtedly shape the future of the Starfinder Society.

Content in The Scoured Stars Invasion also contributes to the ongoing goals of the Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) faction. Content in this scenario also contributes to the ongoing year of the Scoured Stars storyline.

GAME: Fiasco
TEACHER:  Chad R
START TIME: 10:00am
DURATION: 2-3 hours
# OF PLAYERS: 3-5
URL: Board Game Geek (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/161880/quiet-year)
; Tablecard (https://www.dropbox.com/s/wnck28pfmeywcct/LtP--The%20Quiet%20Year.png?dl=0)

Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small time capers gone disastrously wrong – inspired by films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You'll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won't go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably all go south in a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started.

FIASCO is an award-winning, GM-less game for 3-5 players, designed to be played in a few hours with six-sided dice and no preparation. During a game you will engineer and play out stupid, disastrous situations, usually at the intersection of greed, fear, and lust.* It's like making your own Coen brothers movie, in about the same amount of time it'd take to watch one.

*It's 10:00 AM! We'll decide the playbook together from a pre-printed, family-friendly collection.

GAME: Microscope
TEACHER:  Chad R
START TIME: 1:00
DURATION: 2-3 hours; players may drop out when they wish
# OF PLAYERS: 1-6
URL: Board Game Geek (https://boardgamegeek.com/rpg/9789/microscope/);  Tablecard (https://www.dropbox.com/s/nl81dbialukg0k8/LtP--Microscope.png?dl=0)

Want to explore an epic history of your own creation, hundreds or thousands of years long, all in an afternoon? That's Microscope.

You won't play the game in chronological order. You can defy the limits of time and space, jumping backward or forward to explore the parts of the history that interest you. Want to leap a thousand years into the future and see how an institution shaped society? Want to jump back to the childhood of the king you just saw assassinated and find out what made him such a hated ruler? That's normal in Microscope.

You have vast power to create... and to destroy. Build beautiful, tranquil jewels of civilization and then consume them with nuclear fire. Zoom out to watch the majestic tide of history wash across empires, then zoom in and explore the lives of the people who endured it.

GAME: The Quiet Year
TEACHER:  Chad R
START TIME: 4:00
DURATION: 90 minutes
# OF PLAYERS: 1-6
URL: Board Game Geek (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/161880/quiet-year); Tablecard (https://www.dropbox.com/s/wnck28pfmeywcct/LtP--The%20Quiet%20Year.png?dl=0)

"For a long time, we were at war with The Jackals. But now, we've driven them off, and we have this – a year of relative peace. One quiet year, with which to build our community up and learn once again how to work together. Come Winter, the Frost Shepherds will arrive and we might not survive beyond that. But we don't know about that yet. What we know is that right now, in this moment, there is an opportunity to build something."

The Quiet Year is a map game. You define the struggles of a post-apocalyptic community, and attempt to build something good within their quiet year. Every decision and every action is set against a backdrop of dwindling time and rising concern.

The game is played using a deck of cards – each of the 52 cards corresponds to a week during the quiet year. Each card triggers certain events – bringing bad news, good omens, project delays and sudden changes in luck. At the end of the quiet year, the Frost Shepherds will come, ending the game.

We usually reach peak attendance by noon and the event stays steady until about 6pm at which time it starts to taper off.

How does 12pm - 4pm sound? We can put it on the schedule as "demo / learn-to-play" for that time period.

GAME: Dragon Ball Super Card Game - 3 vs 3 Tournament (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/230553/dragon-ball-super-card-game)
ORGANIZER: Hayden M
TIME: 1:00pm - 5:00pm
DURATION: 240 minutes
PLAYERS: 18 (6 teams of 3)
DETAILS: The Dragon Ball Super (DBS) Card Game is the newest iteration of the Dragon Ball license applied to a collectible card game. While borrowing some basic terms and ideas from previous versions of the game, DBS introduces a number of new mechanics including a unique "combo" system, cards used for multiple purposes (energy, combos and characters) and a system designed to emulate the tendency of Dragon Ball characters to "power up" after taking damage.

The regular group Dragon Ball Super Card Game players who meet on a regular basis at ComicReaders Downtown are meeting at Prairie Game Expo for a 3 vs. 3 team tournament. The format is simple. Each player on the team is identified by a player letter (A, B or C). Player A plays against player A on the other team, B vs B, and C vs C. In order for a team to win the match, at least 2 players need to win their match. Matches are best of 1. Teams will play each other in this fun tournament. Promo cards will be given to every participate.

You can sign-up as a team of three or you can sign-up or arrive as a single player and be assigned to a team looking for players. After teams of three are assembled, any leftover players can duel 1 vs. 1 until they get a chance to rotate into a team.

GAME: Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition
ORGANIZER: Berny H
TIME: 10:00am; 1:00pm; 4:00pm; 6:30pm
DURATION: 90 - 120 minutes per session
PLAYERS: 3 - 5 players per session
DETAILS: Berny is a newer DM looking for with other first time players or veterans who don't mind playing with those who are new. Each session is a 1st level, short Dungeons & Dragons adventure where we will have fun, kill stuff, learn a bit about D&D together, and hopefully make friends. Take on the role of a longsword-wielding fhero to fight evil, or a powerful sorceress who can shoot ice from her fingertips, or help out your allies with cosmic healing as a dwarven cleric!

The Saskatchewan Pathfinder Society and The Saskatchewan Starfinder Society return to Prairie Game Expo!

GAME: Starfinder - Skittershot
ORGANIZER: Saskatchewan Starfinder Society
TIME: 9:00am
DURATION: approximately 3 - 5 hours
PLAYERS: 4
DETAILS:
When a routine salvage operation deep in the Vast goes awry, the skittermanders Dakoyo, Gazigaz, Nako, and Quonx must board a luxurious cruise liner controlled by a rogue artificial intelligence to save their vesk boss and a group of hapless passengers.

GAME: Starfinder - Scoured Stars Invasion
ORGANIZER: Saskatchewan Starfinder Society
TIME: 1:00pm
DURATION: approximately 3 - 5 hours
PLAYERS: 24

Scoured Stars Invasion is a Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1 - 8. Balancing time against the lives of the myriad trapped Starfinders, nominated First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo authorizes a dangerous mission to return to the fated region of space known as the Scoured Stars. The might of the resurgent Society is finally poised to breach the formerly impenetrable barrier surrounding the trinary system.

Shawn M will be demoing Star Wars Legion, starting at 5:00 PM. 2 players per session; no experience or material required; plenty of room for onlookers; and, plenty of time for questions. If you already play Legion feel free to come to Prairie Game Expo for pick-up games.

GAME: Fiasco
TEACHER:  Chad R
START TIME: 10:00
DURATION: 2-3 hours
# OF PLAYERS: 3-5
URL: Board Game Geek (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/11038/fiasco)
;  Tablecard (https://www.dropbox.com/s/oi2lj68acxfyx20/LtP--Fiasco.png?dl=0)

URL: Board Game Geek (https://boardgamegeek.com/rpg/9789/microscope/)
;  Tablecard (https://www.dropbox.com/s/nl81dbialukg0k8/LtP--Microscope.png?dl=0)

URL: Board Game Geek (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/161880/quiet-year)
; Tablecard (https://www.dropbox.com/s/wnck28pfmeywcct/LtP--The%20Quiet%20Year.png?dl=0)

We are excited to have Lorne Kletke from Chinook Games coming from Winnipeg with his new design Borders of Kanta, which will be on Kickstarter at the beginning of November. Lorne will run sessions all day in the Game Designer's Corner. Here's the info about Borders of Kanta:

Ages 14+   15-20 minutes/player   2-6 players

Check out ChinookGames.ca for more info, and the Game Designer's Corner (http://sask.games/index.php?topic=7605.msg49792#msg49792) for times to play during the day!

The Al Ritchie Community Association will once again run the kitchen at Prairie Game Expo. The menu they have prepared includes breakfast sandwiches, sausage and perogies, homemade soups, smokies, baked goods, snacks, coffee and various drinks.

As per usual, please no outside food and drink in the venue. This does not mean you HAVE to eat the food prepared by Al Ritchie Community Association. You can leave to seek the food of your choice, but please do not bring said food back into the venue. (Water bottles and early morning coffee are the exception.)

The money raised by Al Ritchie Community Association through the kitchen is used in their various community programs. Thanks in advance for supporting the Al Ritchie Community Association.

The kitchen is cash only.

If you are coming to Prairie Game Expo as a GM or as a player of role-playing games please come to the gym to sign-in, get your name badge, etc before going to one of the other rooms. And if you cannot find your RPG group please ask at the registration table and a volunteer will help you locate the appropriate room.

The Game Designer's Corner is going to be really exciting at this PGX! In addition to the two other designers, Ferne Hebig from Watson is coming back to PGX with her newest creation, The New World Order. Here's the description from Ferne:

The New World Order: Ages 12+, 2-4 Players, roughly 60 minutes

Years after the great war they call "the apocalypse"  has ended, humans and aliens have been forced to coexist. You are conflicted souls, a ragtag group of unlikely heroes trying to find your place in  The New World Order. This entertaining family game will have you testing your Faith in Humanity against the Apocalypse effect!  Choose alien, human or hybrid characters, select a mission, work to collect resources, increase your character's stats, and purchase the upgraded gear you will need to complete your mission. You will be challenged by events that force you to balance risk with reward to make choices that will allow you to complete your mission in the allotted time. This go around we'll be testing some new iterations on character alignment and how it affects game play.

She is planning to run a couple of sessions during the day, so check out the Game Designer's Corner (http://sask.games/index.php?topic=7605.msg49792#msg49792) for more details on all of the playtests and demos happening at PGX!

We had 4 teams of 3 players take part in a 3 vs. 3 Dragon Ball Super Card Game tournament. Each team played every other team. Wins and losses and were recorded. The winning team was Jonathan, Jordan H and Alex. Thanks to the Dragon Ball Super players who came to PGX, including one player who came in from Moose Jaw.
