On January 15th, Chad McCallum (RTigger), Adam Barrett (BigAB) and I began co-hosting a new spoken word radio show in Regina on 91.3 FM, CJTR, Regina Community Radio (http://cjtr.ca/) called Of Dice & Men.  This show is a 60-minute program that focuses on board games, airing every second Sunday night from 8:00PM until 9:00PM.  Repeats of our show are broadcast on the alternate Sundays, as well as every Tuesday at 11:00AM.

You can also download a podcast of the show and listen at your leisure either from the CJTR podcast page (http://cjtr.ca/podcasts/?p=archive&cat=of_dice_and_men), from our own Of Dice & Men website (http://www.ofdiceandmen.ca/), or subscribe to us on Google Play (https://play.google.com/music/m/Iojkgwal7gpych5peqh7o3wwh3m?t=Of_Dice_And_Men), Soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/user-101644760), or on iTunes.

I hope you give us a listen!

Will there be an RSS feed of the podcast?  I'd like to set up a podcatcher to download it automatically so I can't forget.

If there isn't one on the CJTR website, we can add an RSS feed to our website.

There isn't (that I can find; I can't even find an acknowledgement of your show yet) so I would greatly appreciate this.

I'm terrible at doing things like this on a schedule, but if my podcatcher can grab them automatically I'll listen to every episode.  (Maybe not immediately :) I tend to collect podcasts and then binge-listen for a few episodes.)

Yeah, our timeslot wasn't fully confirmed until yesterday, so it's kind of a rush-rush from the establishment of the show to being on the air.  I suspect we'll get some presence on their site in some capacity in the near future (beyond being listed as TBA in the program guide.  :lol)

Sounds like you're getting settled in.  This episode was much more focused flowed a lot better than Ep 1.  Lots of nice plugs in there for SaskGames too  :lol

How are you finding the whole process?
Title: Re: Of Dice & Men - a radio show in Regina on board games
Post by: R Newell on January 31, 2017, 08:22:18 AM
Yeah, one of our self-criticisms after episode #1 was that it was a little too "stream of consciousness."  (Or a little too "SQUIRREL!" for fans of the movie Up.)  We are still thinking of ways to ensure we don't go off on tangents too, too often.

The process has been pretty much fine.  The only challenge is that 1/3 of us has to also work the sound board / computer each episode, as well as essentially be the time-keeper for ads and whatnot, so that person tends to feel more pressured and frazzled.  My turn for that next episode!  :excited

We actually didn't intend to plug SaskGames quite as much as we did.  Adam cut to that topic earlier than we were expecting so then we needed to fill the last five minutes with that.   :lol

Episode #4 is now available.  The main topic of this episode was solo play / solitaire games, and as always we talked about games we've played recently.  Games discussed include Mage Knight, Food Chain Magnate, Santorini, Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, Baseball Highlights 2045, and Adrenaline.  Plus some more plugs for SaskGames.  Links to find our show are in the first post.

Our next show, March 12th, will delve into the topic of hosting a gaming party or weekend.  Let us know if you have any questions you want us to consider for that topic.  You can also follow us on Twitter (@Of_Dice_and_Men (https://twitter.com/Of_Dice_and_Men)) and engage with us there.

Thanks for listening!

Golly gee, us humble folks at Of Dice & Men sure would appreciate y'all nominating us for a Golden Geek Award for Best Podcast.  I reckon that trophy would look mighty purty up on the mantle beside grandpappy.  (Plus you can nominate other podcasts and games and stuff.)

Nominate us here, and thanks! (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/geekawards/boardgame)

(Would a friendly backwoods bumpkin say mantle or just say fireplace...?)
