Warhammer and Warhammer 40K is a table-top miniatures game produced by Games Workshop. Warhammer is the fantasy based game. 40K is the science fiction based game. In either, players select an army, assemble and paint their miniatures, and then go toe-to-toe in against another player. Game styles and length varies, but regardless of the armies and style of play, Warhammer and Warhammer 40K is a very attractive game when on the table.

Excellent. I have reached out to a couple other player groups to see if they are coming. The Prairie Game Expo schedule will be updated in the near future with details about Warmachine / Hordes.
Hi Chad & Dana,
I would like to teach and run a game of Eclipse starting at 5pm for 6 players maximum to keep the playing time under the 4 hour time limit. I will use content from the Rise of the Ancients expansion as well.

That's great, Derek! I expect this one will fill up quick since it's such an excellent game. If this is a teaching game I would not put a one minute turn in place. Just make the hard cut off for 8:30 and count points if you don't get the 9 rounds in. This will give you some time for clean up as well.
(http://cf.geekdo-images.com/images/pic1173341_md.jpg) | The galaxy has been a peaceful place for many years. After the ruthless Terran–Hegemony War (30.027–33.364), much effort has been employed by all major spacefaring species to prevent the terrifying events from repeating themselves. The Galactic Council was formed to enforce precious peace, and it has taken many courageous efforts to prevent the escalation of malicious acts. Nevertheless, tension and discord are growing among the seven major species and in the Council itself. Old alliances are shattering, and hasty diplomatic treaties are made in secrecy. A confrontation of the superpowers seems inevitable – only the outcome of the galactic conflict remains to be seen. Which faction will emerge victorious and lead the galaxy under its rule?
A game of Eclipse places you in control of a vast interstellar civilization, competing for success with its rivals. You will explore new star systems, research technologies, and build spaceships to wage war with. There are many potential paths to victory, so you need to plan your strategy according to the strengths and weaknesses of your species, while paying attention to the other civilizations' endeavors.

Ranked #7 on BGG!!! (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/72125/eclipse)
I'd like to run a game of Talisman in the afternoon, I think. It needs anywhere from 3-6 hours to play to completion, depending on people's knowledge of the game and how fast they are at taking their turn. (If everyone knows what they're doing it can go rather quickly.)
As per usual, I'll be bringing out some of my staples; if anyone wants to request anything from my collection I'll gladly bring it out.
QuoteI'd like to run a game of Talisman in the afternoon, I think. It needs anywhere from 3-6 hours to play to completion
How about a 2pm start time, Tempest? That way you're done at 8pm at the latest if Talisman goes the epic 6 hours.
Fine by me!
(http://cf.geekdo-images.com/images/pic332870_md.jpg) | Talisman is an adventure board game set in a high fantasy medieval world. Players have 14 characters to choose from all based on role playing archetypes, such as heroes, wizards, villains, thieves, monsters, etc. The game makes players feel they are traveling the world to find equipment, weapons, ancient relics, and companions that will help them on their quest to acquire the Crown of Command. Along the way they visit various locales in the worlds, battle each other and fantastic creatures to make their way to the top.

Hey Chad/Dana
I would like to run Boss Monster, maybe over an hour/ hour and a half - should be able to play a few games and introduce some people to the game. Not sure what time of the day, maybe morning, as I would like to run Sergeant's Miniatures maybe in the evening as well, playing it through this Friday but I think if I use one of the small scenarios a couple hours will do.
Murray
Chris will be running the 40k tournament (pending nothing comes up), we're still debating about format, but we should be able to get that finalized soon within the week.
Oh, for those interested, I'll be running Talisman with MOST of the expansions. Probably. They do tend to make things a bit longer, but in my opinion they also make it more fun.
(http://cf.geekdo-images.com/images/pic1732644_md.jpg) | Inspired by a love of classic video games, Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game pits 2-4 players in a competition to build the ultimate side-scrolling dungeon. Players compete to lure and destroy hapless adventurers, racing to outbid one another to see who can build the most enticing, treasure-filled dungeon. The goal of Boss Monster is to be the first Boss to amass ten Souls, which are gained when a Hero is lured and defeated — but a player can lose if his Boss takes five Wounds from Heroes who survive his dungeon.
Playing Boss Monster requires you to juggle two competing priorities: the need to lure Heroes at a faster rate than your opponents, and the need to kill those Heroes before they reach your Boss. Players can build one room per turn, each with its own damage and treasure value. More attractive rooms tend to deal less damage, so a Boss who is too greedy can become inundated with deadly Heroes.
Players interact with each other by building rooms and playing Spells. Because different Heroes seek different treasure types, and rooms are built simultaneously (played face down, then revealed), this means that every "build phase" is a bidding war. Spells are instant-speed effects that can give players advantages or disrupt opponents.

prairieguy: I've added Boss Monster to the schedule. A 9am game with a second game at 10am, as per our discussion at Chewsday Challenge.
Could you reserve 8 spots for the Warhammer Fantasy Event? I will run the day tourney.

QuoteCould you reserve 8 spots for the Warhammer Fantasy Event? I will run the day tourney.

It works well with more players.
I apologize for this being as late as it is but its been a busy year! Do you have any vendor space? We were thinking of coming down from Saskatoon and bringing a couple of our games to demo.

I would like to demo Sergeant's Miniatures - later in the day, maybe the evening would be better. Need a 6' table and probably 2 hours with a good 30 to set up. Oh, and someone to play against lol - or we can choose a 4 player scenario which would be fun
I would like to play in the 40k tournament! Imperial guard
X-Wing: 100 Point Assault at Imdaar Alpha
DESCRIPTION
At a secret research facility on Imdaar Alpha, Imperial scientists are developing a deadly new starfighter that could avoid Rebel sensors and scanners, providing the Empire with the means to crush the Rebel Alliance forever...
At Prairie Game Expo, Assault at Imdaar Alpha is your chance to get your hands on preview copies of the game's fourth wave of starfighters: the Z-95 Headhunter, TIE defender, E-wing, and TIE phantom!
Squad
- The total point value of your squad (ship, pilot, upgrades, etc) cannot exceed 100 points.
- You must chose a faction. Rebel or Imperials. You cannot mix factions to build your squad.
- A squad list must be submitted when you arrive for the event. That means, no squad building when you arrive. Have your squad built in advance. The tournament organizer will review your squad.
- Bring the required components from the X-Wing core set-- maneuver dials, range rulers, asteroids, damage cards, etc.
Game Play
- Players will be randomly matched for the first round robin game. Additional pairings are based on your results from the previous games.
- There is 75 minute time limit per game. 15 minutes for set-up / deployment. 60 minutes for the game.
- The number of matches played is determined by the number of players. If we have 8 players, for example, there will be 3 rounds of games and then the final match between the top 2 players.
- A rule book will be on hand for reference, but two event organizers will be on hand for rule clarifications. If need be, the final say on rules will be provided by ComicReaders' Chad Boudreau, who plays X-Wing but is not participating in the event.
- Official Fantasy Flight Tournament rules can be found at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf)
Points
Match Win = 5 tournament points
Modified Match Win = 3 tournament points
Draw = 1 tournament point
Match Loss = 0 tournament points
The top 2 players will rebuild their 100 point squads using two of the new ships. The first place player going into the final round will choose a faction (Imperials or Rebels). The second place player will get the other faction. So even if you are playing Imperials in the tournament, you might find yourself playing Rebels in the final round. You need to be prepared for this!
Prizes
If we have 8 players, the prizes will be as follows:
- First place player gets their pick of 1 Z-95 or TIE Defender or E-Wing or TIE Phantom
- Second place player gets their pick of one of the three remaining ships
- Third place player gets their pick of one of the two remaining ships
- Fourth place player gets the last remaining ship
- Each player receives a Bandit Squadron Pilot with extended art
TIME
10:00 AM - 2:00pm
EVENT ATTENDANCE LIMITS
This event supports 8 players. Pre-register by posting on this forum on calling the store. 779-0900.

(http://cf.geekdo-images.com/images/pic822328_md.jpg) | Players each represent a particular state during the 19th century – Connecticut and New Hampshire with two players, with Vermont added for three players, and so on – and start with two or three businesses in play under their control. Your goal in NER is to have more assets than other players at game end, as determined by cash in hand, cost of businesses owned, special routes completed and state subsidies acquired.
The game lasts at most 16 rounds. Each round players forecast the upcoming economic condition – depression, normal or prosperity – for a future turn, then take care of any events that occur, such as "Improved Bridge Building Techniques" that allow players to build across estuaries or "Sheep Boom Goes Bust" which represents the decreased demand for wool from New England farmers as the century progressed. Four of the first five events are fixed and represent historical activities, while the other events – including devastating floods, snow, and an improved business climate – are randomized into a face-down deck. Players then each draft a business or action card, with the option to play it immediately (thereby gaining a free action) if they choose to pay the cost.
During the subsequent development phase, players take two actions in turn order, either building twice, playing cards twice, or doing each action once. Players want to build depots that connect their businesses to one of the major markets in the area: New York, Boston or Montreal; to do so, they need to pay the track costs as well as the cost of the depots themselves. Players can build multiple depots in the same action, but the cost is higher since they're doing more work in the same amount of time. Once a business is connected, it earns the owner more income each turn since it's now supplying a larger, richer market. The cards allow players to start new businesses, play special actions, claim a special route (which generates income), claim one of the six state mail contracts, or collect a state subsidy, which provides special benefits like a free depot.
As the game progresses, the players pass through time time periods, with different businesses being available in each. The first period focuses on crafts and farms, for example, while the second introduces more industrial businesses such as shoe and textile production. When passing from one period to another, players must choose to make some of their existing businesses obsolete. Since a player can manage only eight businesses, however, you'll likely want to make room for more profitable ventures anyway.
If all mail routes, state subsidies and special routes are claimed by the end of any round, the game ends at that point; otherwise the game ends after round 16, with the richest player winning.
Game teacher omegadirective is a regular at Chewsday Challenge. He has taught many railway games. The game starts at 9am and supports 5 players. It has a play time of 180 minutes.

Please sign me up for the X-Wing tournament and drop me out of Ticket to Ride.
Please put me down for the 3PM Pathfinder game. I'm also willing to fill out the table for the early game. I have a few questions about the details of the game:
1) Will the pre-generated characters consist of the Paizo iconics?

1. I don't know, but I can ask the organizer and post when I find out more.
2. Same as #1.
3. Characters will be provided. Do not bring your own characters. Pre-generated characters will make the game easy for new players but will also assist the GM in managing the game.

Yes, Matt, I plan to be on for sure for Railways of the World. Still one of my favourite games!
As for Pathfinder table, yes the pregenerated characters will be the iconics. As for the classes available, all the ones I can find. But I'll possibly limit based on experience as some of the classes take a lot of managing like druid.
Intrested in X-wing and 40K!
Sorry, Matt, you'll have to remove me from Railways of the World. I'll now be out of town that weekend.
Sign me up for the 40k tournament!

I would like to demo Sergeant's Miniatures - later in the day, maybe the evening would be better. Need a 6' table and probably 2 hours with a good 30 to set up. Oh, and someone to play against lol - or we can choose a 4 player scenario which would be fun
I am up for giving this a go. I love me some good ol' WWII miniatures gaming.
Let's book Sergeant's Miniatures for 6:00 and if there are a couple more players I will use a 4 player scenario
I will be throwing down for the Warmachine/ Hordes tourney. Good luck to my opponents. *snickers*
Thanks

I would like to bring Automobile. I have never run a game at an event like this before but if I have any takers I would love to get this game out. I will be busy playing Railways between 11 and 2 or 3. So maybe right after that? I have also only played this game as a 2 player up till now. It plays up to 5 and the box says 2 hours. I think our 2 player games have come in just over an hour.
Also, if anyone is there early enough to fit in a short/medium game prior to 11 I am willing to bring any from my collection.
Collection can be found here:

Hi Jon, Automobile starts at 3 -- let me know if you want to change it.
Food for Learning has emailed me about the canteen.
Breakfast: They'll be open at 9am and ready with coffee, muffins, banana bread and the like.
Lunch: BBQed hotdogs and hamburgers will be served from noon until they run out, so get it there early.
Supper: Fresh pizza will be served from 5-7.
The canteen will have snacks and drinks all day.
The organizers of PGX ask that no outside food be brought into the event and that you support the canteen if you're able. All sales go to Food for Learning, which is an organization that feeds kids in need. Cash only.

I'm getting the impression a lot of people are bringing their own games, are going to borrow from the PGX library, or are going to show up and make their gaming choices based on what games are looking for players. But if you do want to schedule part of your day, please post on the forum what you are bringing, when you're coming, and how many players you need.

True, plan on bringing out a large selection......setting up somewhere and just going at it all day. No real plans other than Automobile.
Likely tending towards the lighter side with Amanda, so if you have younger ones with you come and find me.
I will be there at 9am for most of the day. I will be bringing some of my collection with special attention to warhammer diskwars for 2 to 4 players. Depending on interest I could run that a few times during the day-Jeff

You're in, PT.
Hey all,
I think I'm going to be bringing a couple of newer gamers to the event. They've played a fair selection of games, but they are interested in playing Eclipse. I understand that there is going to be a scheduled event running for it, but I would hate to subject more experienced players to newbies unless they are up for that. As well, I fear that the expansions might be a bit much for them. I've actually never played anything other than a human vs. human game, without expansions, so even my experience with the game itself is limited.
If anyone would be interested in running such a game, let me know! :) I unfortunately don't own a copy of the game yet. :( Probably will purchase at the beginning of July with a refreshed pay cheque. :P
Justin Thorpe and I would be interested in partaking in the Ticket To Ride tourney!
Thanks!

I've asked DCStyles to respond, but his post says it's a teaching game. I've taught this game to a lot of people and the expansion doesn't really make the game more difficult. I think it's safe for newbies to sign up and play. PGX is a friendly learning environment. Don't be shy.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I'll let them know and then see if they wish to sign up. :)
Just a note for anyone who hasn't attended one of our ChewsDay Challenge or PGX events: We encourage you to sign up for games you've never played before.
Hi there, yes Eclipse is beginner friendly. I've taught it quite a few times and I have some good cheat sheets to help new players. The expansion doesn't really add any more rules, just extra content.

Not quite! We've consulted with the gods of war and they want more blood so ComicReaders has expanded the tournament to 10 players. Ryan Kirk has swooped in to take the 9th spot. One remains!
ADDED TO THE SCHEDULE
Descent: Journeys in the Dark Forgotten Souls
This not-for-sale exclusive content for Descent: Journeys in the Dark challenges 4 players to cooperatively defeat the adventure.
The overlord's objective is replaced by the overlord track. A doom token and a fate token are placed at opposite ends of the overlord track, and you lose if the doom and fate tokens ever meet on the overlord track.
Doom is an inescapable force that slowly progresses when the heroes fail encounters and in other ways. Fate, on the other hand, is a fluctuating force that the heroes affect both positively and negatively based on their progress. For example, whenever a hero is knocked out, fate advances by one, but by successfully completing a main encounter, you may be able to reset fate to its starting point.
This cooperative version of Descent supports 4 players. This is intended for players with experience with the Descent board game. This is not a teaching game.
10am start time.
2 hour playing time.

I would like to thanks Chad and Dana for putting on a great event and their continued use and support of SaskGames.
Prior to the event I decided I was going to give away a game from my personal collection. I chose Ladies and Gentlemen as it was still in shrink wrap from when I bought it. I decided that I would donate the game to recognize a SaskGames Community Leader. My criteria was simple, I assigned some numerical values to the following activities:
(1) The person attends and posts regularly on ChewsDay Challenge game event threads.
(2) The person Posts games they will teach at ChewsDay Challenge game events.
(3) The person attends and posts on PGX (Prairie Game eXpo) game event threads.
(4) The person Posts games they will teach at PGX (Prairie Game eXpo) game events.
(5) The person has posted a personal BIO on the Member section of this website.
(6) Their post count also added to their rating.
That was the main criteria. When I calculated the number rankings, one member stood out from the pack and deserved recognition. To further validate that the choice was a good one, this person has volunteered for a number of things in the SaskGames community. I was very pleased to recognize NeikeDjour (http://sask.games/index.php?action=profile;u=1163) for her efforts. In addition to the above, she is the designer and publisher of our Monthly SaskGames News Bulletin. You may also know Nicole from her work on the Kickstarter Corner thread. Thanks Nicole!!!
SaskGames was started 4 years ago to bring like-minded people together to enjoy the social aspect of the gaming hobby. The community and friendships that have been spawned is very validating that the model works. I have personally met many new people and made many new friends. If you are already deeply involved in the community, thank you, if you are not, take the plunge. By getting involved, posting, teaching, attending events, and volunteering... you are helping to grow the hobby and build the community!
