Now if they can figure out how to play it.

Added another article to the list.
The Board Room Game Cafe in Halifax is off to a great start. Glad to see they are successful and that they are getting great press coverage...

Good for him. I think that would be a really hard business model to pull off in most places, making that a pretty daring move on his part. I've been to Snakes & Lattes in Toronto and I think one of the biggest reasons it's been such a success is that it's about 1/4 of a block away from a subway station and pretty close to downtown. So it's easy and cheap to get there for 1,000,000+ potential customers. I think Saskatoon's and Regina's relatively lousy public transit systems, general lack of parking, and limited potential customers would be too much of a detriment to opening up something like that here. (Broadway Avenue in Saskatoon actually might be a pretty decent location for this type of business now that I think about it, depending on the rent.)
Here is a great video about the Board Room Game Cafe:

1st of a kind lawsuit where backers from Washington State are suing for failure to deliver on game backed on Kickstarter. May or may not be good for the games industry but it may hold the people who start campaigns more accountable to delivery on a product.

Thoughts? :police
I read that too. Personally, I think this is a good thing. :thumb-up
Accountability is never bad in my books.
I'm glad someone is taking a stand. It's unfortunate that you have to take it on yourself if you want any sort of return in situations like this, but there are a handful that I've heard of that just never produce. I have a bit more sympathy for those projects that are just having delays or budgeted wrong and are trying to make up for it in any way possible, but those that just disappear should be addressed.
It sucks to hear about, but it's a risk you take when backing any project.

Wow.... they just argued and she slapped him. I can't believe she was arrested for that.
Watch out. Jungle Speed is next. It'll be charged as a stabbing.
Police in some areas don't take domestic violence in any form lightly, I still found it odd that it all happened over a game.
I have been playing Monopoly recently with some co workers. That game can be a major piss off and if your upset with your partner all ready, I could see slapping them.
An article I came across about ancient board games.

Ok, that's pretty cool.
I just spent the last several minutes playing "The Royal Game of UR" online and it's pretty neat. A bit like backgammon really.

Thanks qwijybo. I haven't seen any of these games before but Latrunculi & The Royal Game of Ur look like they are worth further investigation. Thanks for posting this.
Great article - very interesting read. I was thinking that instead of trying to puzzle out those they can't understand themselves, the archaeologists involved should bring in game designers to see what they can make of them.
That is a good idea. There is probably some people out there with more in depth knowledge as far as how games work and potentially historical gaming as well. Its pretty neat the stuff archeologists find though.
Great article about gaming in Regina...

I haven't played Go in years but this makes me want to play again. Just not against Google's AI, of course. :D
Lol. I really suck at but really enjoy Go. Neat article.
I have a portable Go set if you ever want to play :)

As long as you're fine with playing a real newbie.
I've caught myself in the ladder problem too many times without noticing it. u_u;
100% fine with new players. I just really like the game and I'm no master player by any stretch :)
Cool - I'd be up for playing sometime, too. Though it's been a while so I'm likely reeeeeeally rusty.
