I look forward to my teammates declaring their intention privately so that we can together ascertain the true face of evil once again.

Is our moderator just really trying to shake it up or are we really going to start the game occupying each others territories?
I'm good either way... I know I'll be in England sooner or later but a Russian army in Rome?? That is a bit far fetched. Haha.

Tsar Bixby of the Great Russian Empire would like to invite his most revered friends to council at Boston Pizza North Albert on Tuesday, July 9th.

This meeting can be used to forge friendships and deepen alliances to keep peace in our time.

This can be an all nations gathering, so the great leaders have a chance to "get to know" one another. This is imperative as our great and wonderful nations are at the brink of conflict and proper stewardship is required prevent the corruption of expansionist despots.

Harken to this council so we can break bread together and ensure the security of our wonderful nations and peaceful way of life.

Here we are. 7 nations about to embark on a journey of negotiation, alliance, and subterfuge. Where Colin is running this as a fundraiser, I am going to make a proposal:

(1) If anyone wants to back out of the game at any point... (They are demoralized, they have been betrayed, they lose interest, they view these pursuits as petty and meaningless, any other reason)... they must contribute $20 to the fundraiser as a penalty as the world scorns their exit. They do, however, avoid the shame associated with that by contributing to a great cause.

(2) Every time a player is eliminated, all of the remaining players chip in $5 to the fundraiser. This may sound expensive, but face it, we are going to be playing this game for months and entertainment like this is pretty damn cheap. This only applies up to the date of the Play with Your Food event, so after October 6th, no more $ needs to be paid.

Can I get a Hallelujah on this? Can I get a damn straight from the other 6 players?

Russia (Tsar Bixby) is in
Austria (Konig von Dana) is in
France (Louie Louie) is in
Germany (Chancellor Ace McQuade) is in
Italy (Don Corleone) is in
Turkey (The Turk) is in
England (King John) is in

Provided the parties involved vote in your proposal:

Regarding your (1) proposal, if someone were to want to back out, could there be a successor to their country provided they are not yet eliminated?  Say a certain someone that "did the previous puppet to the throne in".  Buy-in of course.. still for charity

There is no Retreat phase so we are now in Fall 1901 Diplomacy phase.

7 full days from now, so lets say 7:00pm Sunday the 21st. That is 19:00.

Also, if the French don't submit orders again next week he will be relieved of command. Too early in the game to make it a six player. This will not happen later in the game if people lose interest, but I feel that for the start it is too much of an advantage to the German, English and Italian to leave it uncontrolled.

This just in. Russia now accepting applications for a new alliance partner. The newly vacated position once held by Turkey is open for consideration. As added incentive, we do not need to wait for thanksgiving to carve up a Turkey.

British Intelligence Communique -

Northern Europe appears peaceful - normal troop movements.  King John has dispatched diplomatic "ships of peace" to the North Sea on their way to Sweden and to the English Channel to provide support for his allies and a convoy line to mainland Europe as Holland has requested a friendly unit to protect them from possible invasion.

Germany moving north does not seem a cause for concern and France is strangely quiet.

Disturbing reports from the south indicate that Russia and Turkey have each begun maneuvers near one another's territories.  Early Reports of Austrians coming out of the mountains and streaming south.   We will keep a close eye on future movements and will not hesitate to support our allies should hostilities ensue.

Our communication lines remain open as we look to bolster alliances and friendships.

British Intelligence Communique -

Northern Europe remains peaceful.  Good relations with Germans, French and even the Russians! are in place - no troop movements in or near British sovereign territories to report.   British forces arrived safely in Belgium and Norway to adoring citizens waving the Union Jack.  King John continues to rule fairly and firmly.

We are hearing of skirmishes in the south.  Reports of aggressive Austrian forces pressing into Italy give us cause for concern.  Turkey has also brought troops to the border of Russia (some reports have them in Russia) over a reported dispute about war ships in the black sea.

England will be monitoring these situations closely and will take swift and decisive action should the interests of England or its allies be threatened by disruptive forces from mainland Europe.

Stay Calm
Carry On
Dance Along
With King John

Austria,

I met with the leader of your army that occupies Venice, Georg and after a very lengthy conversation with him and his family I know his intentions towards Italy are not ill mannered. You may recognize him from this picture...

A fierce looking fellow at first yes... but once you get to know him a very fine and educated man. And then he picked up his guitar and started to play... and then sing.... and then his entire family joined in. Started to weird me out a bit to be honest. Everyone may better recognize them here...

It just turns out that Georg and his family are just stopping in Venice on their way to the Switzerland where they can sing and dance their merry little hearts away.

 Auf Wiedersehen!!

As most of you know, our Turkish troops have advanced into Russian territory.  Our men are currently trudging through snow, and chancing the cold.  DAMN it's cold!!!

Of course we are not used to these temperatures, and can only hope that the Russian women (most commonly as seen below) are keeping our men warm.

We are saddened by the loss of our soldiers in combat over our Bulgarian loss, but we can only see this as temporary, and hope that their lives are not lost in vain.

As such he has been terminated and we have appointed a new negotiator for our future political dealings.

On behalf of the German High Command we present to you our new ambassador to the European assembly.

regards, Ace, German High Command

Then we will be taking a couple weeks off. We have one player on a canoe trip until the 13th and another about to be a first time dad in the next couple days.

Clock will start up again on the 13th. PM's will be sent out as a reminder that the game is back on.

My good friend Austria,

The German Armies simply needed a vacation with fine women and good beer. They had also heard there was a yodelling competition and being a commander who is sensitive to his troops needs how could I deny them a trip to Austria.
 :guinness

While here I was hoping to connect with an old Italian acquaintance, however he seems to have left for his homeland to attend to some pressing matters there.

I am sure come the fall things will look much better for Austria, if for no other reason that German Flags look better than Austria ones flying over the buildings.

As for the Russians do not be too hard on them, they are still preoccupied with getting their Turkey cooked and may not have fully understood the implications of my request.

Have no fear our Armies will vacate your homeland soon and return home to a glorious victory celebration after their much needed time off.

kind regards, Ace, German High Command

British Intelligence Communique-
British Troops have moved into Paris securing lands lost in the 100 years war.  We look forward to returning further traditional English lands to the fold in the coming years....

Austria's earlier aggression seems to have been repelled and Austria appears to be under siege on a number of fronts.  We urge all countries to exercise restraint in these trying times.

The palace received a package of rotten fish eggs and a foul tasting liquor from a primitive outpost in the North East... we are currently analyzing the package and trying to determine if it was an act of war or just a gift from someone with poor taste.

The mainland now seems awash in conflict.  We are saddened and continue to explore ways to bolster our allies.

British troops have liberated traditional English lands in Paris and Brest    We will now work with the Frenxh people to relocate then to more suitable areas.    We note with caution the conflict in the south which has been occurring during our peaceful reclamation of English lands.

We have dispatched an envoy to the south to investigate the escalating conflict there in an attempt to bring the serene peace of the north to the primitive factions there.  We fear we may not be able to convince the brutes in the south of civilized conflict resolution strategies.

British Intelligence Communiqué

The French have been relocated to warmer temperatures and the British people look forward to continued peace.

We are saddened by the overthrow of the slightly crazed but loveable Austrian Ruler and we urge the occupying countries of "old Austria" to show restraint in their lusty expansionist machinations.

The people of Belgium report german troops massing at their borders... we have received assurances from the German despot Ian that these military manoeuvres will end soon.

Russia and Turkey have eased tensions but we believe this area to be a powder keg and will watch for hostilities to resume soon.

Italy, having staved off the aforementioned crazed but loveable Austrian looks to be expanding its territory to the east.

England stands ready to defend her lands and aid her friends.  (During regular business hours only, please)

God Save the King.

As day breaks across Europe the German people mourn the treachery of our once great alliances. Our armies have suffered retreat as friends have become foes. But even in these dark times when its seems the entire world has turned its anger on the good people of Germany we are bouyed by these thoughts; Firstly, that our brave soldiers have managed to stave off attacks on many fronts resulting in only minor damage from the combined attacks of the English and Russian dogs. We give thanks to those who gave their lives to ensure the timely information allowed prompt action saving the lives of many soldiers. Secondly, that new allies have risen to take the place of those who have been treacherous. Third, but certainly not least among our joy on this sad day, is the prophecy of a great leader born of the common people of Germany who will lead the people of Germany in the future to cleanse Europe of all those who have wronged her in the past. This small boy has no name as yet, but he will give rise to the 3rd and greatest German empire ever.

Take heart German people, we will live to fight another day.

As our sources told us, the German advance on our territories came to pass.  Luckily we were given advanced notice of this treachery and were able to mitigate the damage with our own offensive.  The Germans appear to be under the command of the Italian Mafia which does not bode well for world peace.  The Turkish boy-king, Timothy the Indecisive appears to have bowed to Italian threats as well.  It appears that Italy now is the main threat to peace in our lands.

It is with great shame that Russia issues this communique to foreign envoys. Tsar Bixby was duped and deluded into a course of action by believing a vicious set of rumor mongering lies. A plan was set in motion by other nations having the Russian Ministry of defense believe that Germany was about to fall and Russia could stand united with the world or be left on the wrong side of the battle lines.

The gullible Russian minister of defense is now contemplating this at his new residence in Siberia.

It is with sadness and shame that Russia proclaims it was both naïve and impetuous. There can be no proper amends other than to make the following proclamation.

Russia is letting go of her dream of European sovereignty, pragmatism dictates more realistic goals are in the hearts and minds of the Russian Peoples. A more noble cause must be embraced. A just course of action must be put in motion that the Russian Empire can be proud of. Russia will willingly & eagerly subordinate her European expansionist policy to her true allies: England, Germany, & France. Russia will now focus on noble deeds and a legacy for our collective future: The complete annihilation of Turkey and Italy and the genocide of their peoples.

Sincerely and with much Love,
Tsar Bixby.

Tsar Bixby,

Indeed you were duped, deceived and made to look a fool but your rendition of the recent events are as twisted as your ridiculous proclamation. Of course you are ready, willing and eager to back and support your longtime ally England and his leashed friend France. There is nothing new about that statement. However it is arrogant and chaffing of you to include Germany as an ally of your nations. The proof of the matter is that you not just a season ago you ordered your armies and fleets in an attack on that very same nation.

The more accurate account of the previous year had threatening moves made by both the English and Russians towards Italy's trusted neighbour Germany and it was imperative to take immediate action. Italian spies successfully infiltrated these plans and exposed them to their true friends to best preserve their territories. Although plans were not as successful as hoped, we do believe that your plans were foiled.

The Russo/English alliance must be broken, shattered and destroyed. And it shall.

War begun, hell unleashed.

British Intelligence Communique - supplemental

It is with deep regret that the English announce today that we will be closing the Italian embassy and expelling all Italian diplomats from our country in compliance with the newly drafted Anti-Mafia Bill of 1904.   Intelligence reports an Italian / Turkish plan to invade English interests.  A build up of Italian and Turkish fleets in the Mediterranean confirm our fears.

In other news the British Parliament today voted to give all French people dual citizenship and tabled a motion to change the name of the country to Frangland.

German Communique;

Perhaps it is our poor understanding of International relationships, but it does not seem a good start to insult a potential ally by calling them a poodle while asking for their assistance.

Maybe it is just the Italian way.

Not that the Germans are renowned for their understanding of politics. Typically we employ a kill them all approach to detractors.

Our regards to the French and we look forward to your continued support on a key battle front of the war.

Instead, I was just yelling at the French .... dogs are more attentive if you yell at them you know!  :lol

Or maybe I am just trying to wake him up! The French Ambassador seems to be asleep at the wheel ever since he slept through putting his moves in in 1901!

Only a fool believes his own logic. When moving into the Mediterranean, you became a needful target. And pillaging, once good Fench colonies, and turning them into your whipping boy for resolve. Only a fool would trust you and that Russian. His allies, if they haven't turned on him first, and live in prosperity like we Turks, turn into where Austria once was. When offered a strong hand, both Austria and France have denied, it can only be a matter of time that English tyranny can rule over France, "until he is no longer needed or relavent", as you have so eloquently put it to me in several conversations.  Spoken like a true dictator, just as Russia was to Austria.

British Intelligence Communique -

The Royal Navy arrived in Piedmont late last night under the French flag to liberate the great people of Piedmont from the Tyrant Ricky Spaghetti-o.  The liberators were greeted by adoring citizens waving the Union Jack as tons of pasta were dumped into the Piedmont harbour in celebration.

French and British troops and naval units are now preparing for the sacking of Rome.

In other news, it was an unhappy thanksgiving for Turkeys around the world.

Sorry, but moves have to be submitted by Personal Message on this site. I don't even look for them anywhere else.

Pretty sure this was made clear early on, and I know I didn't post any of my email addresses for these games. I need to have them in one place, I can't be checking all 3 of the ones I (rarely) use, plus this site plus messaging on some of the other sites I frequent and receive messages (Facebook, Boardgamegeek, NFL.com)

Below is a note from the fist post of this thread.   The fourth point specifically mentions time stamps on email which seems to indicate that emails are an acceptable form of order submission.  I would respectfully submit that Russia's orders are within the initial guidelines  of the game if he did indeed submit them by email.  Of course if he didn't send them in at all then his head must hang in shame.

- Orders must be submitted to Game Moderator within 7 days from the time New game turn is posted.
- Retreat Orders must be submitted to Game Moderator within 2 days from the time update is posted.
- Builds and Disbandment Orders must be submitted to Game Moderator within 2 days from the time update is posted.
- All forum, posts and e-mails are time stamped.
- Any incorrect orders will be discarded, no exceptions.

It seems if we were going to change submission protocol midway through the game then all players should be notified of said changes.

I, of course, will respectfully accept what ever decision our esteemed referee makes.

Peace

King John

.... Nice try King John.
Title: Re: SaskGames Diplomacy Game #01

The "no exception' refers to orders being in on time not the manner in which they are sent , which I will grant should have been sent by pm.   It is ambiguous at best

Orders must be in by specified time, no exceptions.

Matt did send in orders on time, they where sent to my SaskTel email. I didn't even see them until later that night when I saw Matt's post about his email not going through. I have 2 emails that I check irregularly at best.

This is not a midgame change, as I did make it clear at the start of the game that all orders to me must be done by PM on this site.

I do appreciate that this is a bit of a blow to the Russian/English/German side, but I am going to have to rule that the moves stand as last posted.

Please submit any complaints by email to cdearborn247@yahoo.ca (I never check that one)

Russia takes full responsibility for the static nature of their disorganized military. The minster of defense is now contemplating this in Siberia. On another note, should the Sev unit not been automatically retreated to Moscow?

Units that do not receive orders do not get to retreat, they are eliminated.  This is why units are given Hold orders instead of no order at all.

I would like to make a motion that all turns be due on the same day (ie Sunday by 9 pm) regardless of what's going on.    builds and retreats  could be due the Tuesday following or something.   But it wouldn't affect the weekly due date for moves.    This might prevent some of our more forgetful players from missing any more turns than they already have.

Plus I like the idea of a fixed day and time for planning sakes.   This way we always  have the weekend to plan out backstabby treacherous moves.

A scheduled format works for me. I am good with John's proposal of Sunday for move orders and Tuesday for build and retreat orders. That is about the only thing that King John and I have agreed on thus far in this game.

And on that note....... Germany, though 2 units short, is now under the protection of the Axis Alliance and you can be certain King John, there will be more of our German friends to deal with in 1908.

As for gutting Germany. I'll bite yer bum. It's only a flesh wound. Bring it beeyotch

Ha ha ha - Germany is dead and does not even know it yet. Well played Mr. Mafia, I tip my hat. Russia can gracefully admit defeat, all two of their citizens. :)

Germany on the other hand, has delusions of grandeur that are being fed to him by the Italian-Turkey alliance. I shall enjoy watching him be the creamy center of the oreo cookie of trust between you Italy & Turkey.

Goodnight Chancellor of Naivety, the night of the Long Knives will soon be upon you.

If you consider handing the game to the Mafia Prince Richard, then yes it was a good coup... otherwise it was suicide.  You let your desire for vengeance cloud your vision Mr. Chancellor... forgetting your builds just ensures you and I trade places in the final tally... You move to fourth... I move to third... Richard wins and Tim finishes second....

At least that's how my super computer has it pegged currently....

I wonder what the Axis Alliance has that will defend Brest, Belgium, Denmark, Kiev, and Berlin - from such a distance!   I look forward to this mighty weapon being unleashed in 1907.

Um yeah, now I remember what made me switch. England can't count

There are still 5 German armies to defend our homeland. We may not keep everything but you will pay dearly for every inch of ground. All armies have been called home in light of the chancellors weakened mental state.

An an alternative, Mr. Chancellor the Al Ritchie Family Wellness Centre works with children 0 - 6 and their families to ensure they are reaching their full potential.  We offer nutrition camps, parenting classes, outreach, a clothing bank and scheduled programming to help our participants be the best they can be despite challenging circumstances.  We are also a Good Food Box depot and an agent for the Regina Food Bank.

Its fortunate that both your former allies have ties to the philanthropic and non-profit / charitable world so that these worthwhile causes may benefit from your "forgetfullness".

It is curious that you would betray these two men who work so tirelessly on behalf of needy families in this city... but I suppose you have your reasons.

My dear friend you are a master of words. Let me assure you I was thinking only of the children and thought what way could I best support my friends with their charitable endeavours. This way I have added drama and excitement to a game that was otherwise decided. Now everyone is engaged and unsure. It's fantastic like a rebirth.

Who benefits the most? The children. How can you think of such kindness as betrayal?

Instead you should applaud my generosity and sense of fun, and think of the children.

It is with great joy that we see the Russian Kremlin crippled, and the stench of desperation coming from King Fish and Chips is barely within the limits of stomaching.  These times of rejoice and celebration are amongst us, and the final cleanse of dictatorship rule will be swift and painless.

At this time I would like to extend a heartfelt salute to the brave German chancellor who would have, but for a few missed deadlines, fared much better.   Thank you for your good humour and for your cleverly conceived and unfortunately, poorly executed machinations.

Your frenemy,

The King

Guys it was a slice.
Have a great Christmas!

And yes except for missing 2 turns. Lol I did ok.
Sadly those 2 missed turns killed both Austria and myself.

Glad to have contributed to the chaos.

The news had come out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again.

Twas the night before Christmas, 40 below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron, fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings Snoopy knew he was caught.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out, "Merry Christmas, my friend"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy, our hero, saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Well, I cannot fight Turkey alone. It appears that Tino has demoralized the King of Fish and Chips and in doing so, Tino is giving the game to his little brother. I cannot fight the incompetent Turk on my own, alas, I will have to settle for second place. So be it.

Hello fellow leaders.

As Boy King, Tim the Turk, I would like to thank you all in your efforts, and in conceiding defeat to the true seeker of freedom and justice to the Northern Tyrants.  It is good to see that even a Boy King like myself can be more manly than the Queen of England.  Thank you for all you kind words, and praise.  As you have all been content with second place, I think it only fair to place the English Queen of Fish and Chips as 4th place, for conceiding defeat first.  Tsar Bixby of Russia, the cockroach that never gives in (finally giving in secondly), and earning himself an honourable mention in this war (barely a step up from those he turned on, sadly). Lastly, Second Place in this war going to my loyal Ally, and my Brother at Arms,  Tino from Italia, for driving the stake into the heart of Tyranny, the once acclaimed, "Peaceful One", the Puppet Master, Mr Fish N Chips.

If defeat be your will, it shall be so.

The Turk.

I can only imagine the horror of your collective childhoods dearest mafia brothers that would manifest so late in life where you would take such pleasure winning a game in such dubious fashion.   The bullying you must have endured - being picked last for playground baseball games - not winning much of anything as children can scar our adult selves in terrible and tragic ways.    If winning this game dulls that pain for you even a little bit then I gladly will yield all claims on second place.   And if you would like to play some checkers or tic-tac-toe this weekend I will come over and let you win a few games as well.  Hopefully we can erase some of those terrible childhood memories.

Misfired orders in the Spring of 1912 find the Italian leader Tino angry and deflated.

Stalemate indeed.   It will be up to the boy-king.  He can win by devouring his brother and advisor.... But seems reluctant to do so....

England is open to a negotiated end to,the game if Turkey does not have the stomach to do what every player on the board would have done two years ago...

2 more moves like this and I call it a tie, shared victory for England and Turkey, Italy 3rd and Russia 4th.

Memo to the brothers Grim:

Having heard nothing from either the Boy King or his tragically flawed brother, Richard the Lyin' Hearted I can only assume yet another year of barrage from the mafia brothers.  I have offered the olive branch of peace but this war continues.

Perhaps our referee will put an end to it for us.

Fall and Winter went like the previous year. No movement and no build from Italy.

Checked the rule book and all players with pieces on the board share the tie.

England, Italy, Russia and Turkey will be declared co-winners, anyone have strong and reasonable objections to this?

The British King will meet with his closest advisor (himself) this afternoon to determine whether a protest should be filed.   I like how if you write the tie in alphabetical order, Turkey is last.   The "red phone" is open for cordial diplomatic discussion.

The new Canadian elections act doesn't work for me and I even have strong and reasonable objections.

Today the British parliament passed a motion requiring The boy king to provide these reasons to the referee and to the chairman of the G1 - King John.    Only then will England considering supporting Turkeys plea to continue.

Only a true coward chooses to "tie" in a war of this magnitude. Even for the British, who hold down the majority of what was formerly known as France, have taken on the French disposition and are good to tie in a war, as previously mentioned, the cowards way out. With the Russian tsar not putting in his moves, I have not heard the tales of woe to end the game then...??  From what was mentioned a season ago, I believe we were going to see what transpired in 2 seasons... If I'm not mistaken... And that was merely 1 season ago...  Seems like a sorrowful way to end an almost full year of war... Everyone talks about the mere instance that I should "turn" on the Don, yet everyone forgets that the cowardly Queen of England could have done the same to the Russian... I say we see where this war ends in one more year.

Blah blah blah.   Everyone's a coward.  Blah blah blah.

My alliance with Russia is strategic to prevent you from acquiring more centres.

Your alliance with Italy is strategic to ensure you have someone to tell you what to do.

History book writers will determine which was the more cowardly alliance

Firstly, for some reason my email notification isn't working so I am late wager in here. I apologize.

Secondly, Italy did not build again this year but only because the Don is pissed off that the good 'ol Sandstra Bros Alliance did not take a supply centre off of the King of "turtle defense". Indeed a stalemate is what King John wants.... It is his only chance at victory, a shared one.

But if we are talking about a shared victory... then of two alliances on the board.... I say ours has 19 centres and yours only 15 so Tim and I will share the victory. Nana nana boo boo stick your head in cow poo.

1916 ... Lets play it.

If no centres drop, I will agree to the stale mate.

Oh the Russian Tsar.. How does he find the silver to coat his tongue in St Petersburg?

Perhaps this victory should be hailed to King John then. After all, the English communiqué was the one who warned us of your treasonous ways nearing the Black Sea in year one.  Or maybe you should congratulate Austria for making a grand alliance with the foolish Russian Tsar who thought he could beat the Turk down.  Perhaps we should thank France too, for not sending forth his armies to squander the Turk-alian alliance which lead to England's loss of the Meditteranean. But alas, it was likely the Germans failure to send his armies, or hire more countrymen to build tanks and man the new lands conquered...  Ooooh, hang on. Speaking of errors while sending troops, I think this war was won by Russia. The one who gave Turkey an inch, while they took the mile.

To the Don, Tino, you were our only true alliance in this game, and we thank you and your men for the sacrifices made.  You have come to prove, that only the strong survive, unlike anyone who made alliances with Russia for they now fly the flag of freedom.

This was my second attempt at this game of diplomacy by forum and my second draw with Italy. You were all formidable opponents and I had just as much fun this time around.

Colin, thank you for putting up with us as we managed to draw this out for just short of a full year! And I do owe the money we all agreed too when we started.... Exact figure though I am not sure of.  :confused
