Hello board gamers!
We try to plan our events about a month in advance. We also try to pick games that are popular and easily accessible to new gamers. But we've never asked you what you'd like to see played at ChewsDay Challenge.
Here's your chance to let us know what you would like to see hit the table. Please post in this thread the game(s) you'd be interested in playing at a future event and we'll try to make that happen.
Also, if you are interested in teaching a game from your own collection please send me a private message.
Thanks, and game on!!!
Dana.
Games requested to be played at Chewsday Challenge:
Egizia
Stone Age
Battlestar Galactica
Heroclix
Snake Oil
Kingsburg
Puerto Rico
Coloretto
Race for the Galaxy
Legend of Andor
No specific titles come to mind, but I have noticed from the recaps that some longer, more immersive games are occasionally hitting the table (Merchant of Venus, Battlestar Galactica). Those are the types of games I generally like to play and would encourage those willing to run games that would take most of the evening. I have a few like that that I'll probably offer to run in the future but I don't have any dates in mind yet.
I am interested in teaching Heroclix at a future Chewsday Challenge. I can provide the miniatures and maps. I am wondering if there would be interest among our attendees for this. It would be a teaching game, but depending on how many people are interested I could run multiple tables. Folks that know how to play and have their own miniatures would be welcome, too.
Alex and I had talked about doing Heroclix as well. Let me know what night you are planning on and we can certainly provide extra figs and maps.
I'm not sure how many more games there are like them, but I really enjoyed Stone Age and Igizia... I'd like to play more games like that down the road. Also, some of the quicker/party games have been pretty good. I've really enjoyed Snake Oil, Coloretto and Vegas Dice to name a few.
American Gladiators.
I too would like to play Stoneage and some Kingsberg. I own both games, however, am not great with giving directions so someone would have to do that. Maybe some Puerto Rico?
I'd really like someone to teach me Race for the Galaxy!

I can teach Kingsburg
I'd like to see Legends of Andor make a return visit. I've been reading lots of good things.
Also if anyone would ever be interested in playing/learning how to play D&D 4th Ed, I could potentially play/run some games if people wouldn't feel awkward playing D&D at a Chewsday Challenge ;p

Mac and I have actually talked about this a bit, and I'm currently reading / getting familiar with Halls of the Undermountain because that is the campaign we were thinking of running. This is in the earliest of stages of planning, but the idea was that Mac and I would tag team. I've got experience DM-ing (though not with 4th edition) and Mac has experience with 4th edition as a player. So, in theory, I could run the game as the DM but Mac would provide the guidance on rules.
It has been a few weeks since Mac and I talked, but, yeah, I think there is some interest, Tempest. Perhaps we can chat some more about this on March 12. I'll be at Chewsday Challenge on that day as the ambassador.
That sounds awesome. I'm also very familiar with 4th ed rules, both from the player and DM perspectives; I also have a character concept I've been wanting to try out, so count me in.
I have a good sized collection of abstract strategy games. I would really like to get them to the table more often. I thought I would post here to see if there was any interest perhaps a monthly night of abstracts.
An abstract strategy game is a strategy game that minimizes luck and does not rely on a theme. Almost all abstract strategy games will conform to the strictest definition of: a gameboard, card, or tile game in which there is no hidden information, no non-deterministic elements (such as shuffled cards or dice rolls), and (usually) two players or teams taking a finite number of alternating turns.
Many of the world's classic board games, including chess, checkers and draughts, Go, xiangqi, shogi, Reversi, and most mancala variants, fit into this category. Play is sometimes said to resemble a series of puzzles the players pose to each other. As J. Mark Thompson wrote in his article "Defining the Abstract":
There is an intimate relationship between such games and puzzles: every board position presents the player with the puzzle, What is the best move?, which in theory could be solved by logic alone. A good abstract game can therefore be thought of as a "family" of potentially interesting logic puzzles, and the play consists of each player posing such a puzzle to the other. Good players are the ones who find the most difficult puzzles to present to their opponents.
Abstract Games I have in my Collection:
(Number of players)
Chase (2)
DVONN (2)
GIPF (2)
Halves (2)
Hive (2)
Kogworks (2)
Pikemen (2,3,4)
PUNCT (2)
Quarto (2)
Quoridor (2,4)
Six (2)
TAMSK (2)
TZAAR (2)
Volcano (2,3,4,5,6)
YINSH (2)
Zagami (4)
ZERTZ (2)
A couple that keep almost finding themselves in my collection are "Ninja, Legend of the Scorpion Clan" and Alhambra. I'd be interested in playing those, see if I enjoy them.
and Cargo Noir
Just a question, I do not see a post for June 18th, 2013. Will there be a games night on the 18th?
Thanks

Hello Guy.
There will be a ChewsDay Challenge event on the 18th. We are still lining up the ambassador and the feature game. Will post as soon as we finalize.
Thanks,
Matt
thanks!
I'd love to play Archipelago and Keyflower at Chewsday Challenge.

Archipelago's interesting. I'd definitely like to play a full game of it one of these nights.
I, too, would very much like to try out Archipelago.
I would love to learn how to play "Go."
Anyone know how and want to teach it?
I really enjoyed Navigator and would like to play this one again sometime.

I can bring it tomorrow.
Can somebody bring Shogun? Would love to learn it.
Which version of Shogun? There are a few games by that name.
I guess I am not sure. I didn't know there were lost of them I had just heard about this Samurai game called Shogun. It is an older one.
Ok, you are probably looking to play a game called Ikusa, which was called Samurai Swords, which was called Shogun. :)
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/221/ikusa
I happen to have a different game:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/20551/shogun
Let's try both!
I've been wanting to try CO2 since it was released. If anyone has it, I'd love a chance to play it one Tuesday.
If you're looking to play Ikusa, I'm your guy. I'll bring it out one of these weeks. It kinda reminds me of Axis & Allies, but not as complicated.
Ikusa was really good , would like to try it again with an earlier start time to try and finish :D
One of these weeks, I'll see if I can't bring it out maybe a bit earlier, like 6:00 PM if interested parties would want to be there earlier.
I'd like to see someone host :scrab-f :scrab-i :scrab-a :scrab-s :scrab-c :scrab-o. I own the game and have played it once(a long time ago) so I don't remember enough to teach it myself. :confused
I do however, remember that it was a blast to play! :excited
For those of you who don't know what fiasco is, I highly recommend watching TableTop play it on youtube.(It's not just fun to play but entertaining to watch! :popcorn)
Not sure how doable it is, but I'd be interested in trying out one of the shorter games in the GMT COIN series. (Distant plain, Cuba libre or fire in the lake)
Mark M has taught Cuba Libre at Chewsday Challenge before.
Good to know. Thanks. I'll see if he is interested in bringing it out again.

I second this request!
I know this event is mostly for board games, but do you ever host roleplaying games as well? Would you be amiable towards one shots of Witchhunter, V:tM, Mutant Year Zero, AFMBE, Firefly, Arcanis, etc?
Also for board games: Eldritch Horror, Firefly, Formula D tournament, Last Night on Earth, Villainy, Puppet Wars, Deadlands.
There are some role playing games coming up in the Chewsday Challenge events Oct 14 (Cthulhu) and Oct 21 (Paranoia).
I for one would probably join in a V:tM one-shot game if it were on a night I could attend.
I'm not familiar, alas, with any of the other games you've listed.

Tabletop Role playing Games are certainly welcome. The venue is not really set up for Live Action Role Playing though so that genre/style of game is not a good fit for this event. Hope that makes sense.

Ive heard of it, but not seen it. Is it a big game?
The board isn't that big, but the tower needs room. No bumping! No bumping!
I've played it once, it's pretty neat.
I'd love to play Le Havre if anyone would like to bring it out!
This is just a idea that I want to we'll gage the intrest I bought kanban the automotive revolution it's from the same designer of co2 it looks like a awesome game

Scuudz, I'm always looking for an excuse to get Le Havre to the table. May be a few weeks before I get a chance though.

Count me in!
I wouldn't mind seeing some more Role-Playing Games, I know Cory ran a session of Call of Cthulhu and PhotoJim has done Paranoia.
I own a number of New World of Darkness core books along with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revised core book (http://'https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/91326/buffy-vampire-slayer-roleplaying-game-revised-edit'). I even own Werewolf the Apocalypse 20th edition (http://'http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/112871/Werewolf-The-Apocalypse-20th-Anniversary-Edition') and a number of source books for W20. I recently supported the V20 Dark Ages Kickstarter (http://'https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/deluxe-v20-dark-ages') and received my pdf. I found this Fireborn RPG (http://'https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/fireborn/') about playing Dragons reincarnated as humans.
I kind of want to give OVA: Anime Role-Playing Game (http://'https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/163632/ova-anime-role-playing-game') a try.
But if anybody wants I could run another call of cthulhu one off
I'd really love to play Dead of Winter someday. I always seem to be scheduled in or running something else when its brought out.
I could run a game of dead of winter instead of space cadets since no one seems to want to join that... would you be down for a 8:30 start?
I would love to try ...
Kings of New York,
Roborally, and
Star Wars Rebellion RPG
These are titles i have seen others playing, or have read about and would love to try.
I would love to play a lot of these games but they start so late (I have to be up at 5am the next morning).....I would love to play Dead of Winter or something like Kings of New York at 6:30 or 7:30. Could someone host something like that?

This is an excellent point. It would be wonderful if some of the more involved / lengthy setup games had a 6:30 or 7pm (instead of 8:30pm or later as recently has been the habit) start so old farts like me with an early curfew, because of early wakeup, could enjoy them too without having to leave early due the late hour of the evening. :D
Some (not all) games that are lengthy and have an involved setup also take up a lot of table space. Those games often have a later start time because we have increased access to tables after the supper rush, which better accommodates games that have a big footprint. In the past, that wasn't really necessary, but the attendance has grown enough to require those restrictions when it comes to scheduling games.

I actually scheduled a game of Stone Age for 8:30 already, but if no one signs up for it I'd love to play Dead of Winter. I'd also be interested in playing it March 3rd instead if you're able to make it out and that time works.
I've been thinking about picking up Letters from Whitechapel but have never played it before. Would anyone be interested in bringing it out to teach, one Tuesday?
Speaking of hidden movement games, I've also been interested in playing Fury of Dracula, if that's a possibility (I know it's out of print). Though it may be a little long for Chewsdays. Also I've never played it, before, and I'm not sure if it's easily teachable or not.
And there are also a couple of other older, OOP games that I've been wanting to try: El Grande and Mission: Red Planet (though both are apparently getting re-prints). If anyone has them and would be willing to bring them out that would be awesome.
I'll bring El Grande out sometime soon. Perhaps Fury of Dracula sometime soon, as well.
Would love to play letters from whitechapel as well!
Re: early start thread, I often can't get away until the kids are in bed, so 8 is often the earliest I can get down to BPS unfortunately.

Excellent - sounds great. I'd be up for playing either any night except next week (I'm already signed-up for Alchemists and it sounds like that's going to take the majority of the night).
I would also like to see letters from whitechappel come out I wanted to play it
I ended up biting the bullet and picking-up Letters From Whitechapel so I'm bringing it out on Tuesday.
YAY!
Sign me up!
RTigger, you'll have to post in the Chewsday weekly thread to sign up for a game so we moderators can add you. Thanks.
Well, after watching Geek & Sundry's two part episode of Betrayal at House on the Hill (http://'https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10547/betrayal-house-hill'), I kind of want to give it a try.
I can definitely bring out Betrayal at the House on the Hill next week!
Cool!
Looking to teach something for next Tuesday... anyone have any requests?

Would anyone be up for bringing out K2 or Ghost Stories to Chewsday? I've been wanting to try both if anyone has either and would be willing to teach a game.
I can brig ghost stories next week... but prepare to lose :)
Awesome - thanks very much! Haha, I've heard it's very difficult so I'm already prepared.
Would you be up for bringing it out at 830, next week?
That's actually exactly when I was going to book it :)
I've had pretty good luck posting requests, here. Any chance someone owns and would be up for bringing out Glen More? I keep hearing great things and would love to try it out. But I think it's currently only available as an import so I wasn't sure if anybody had it locally.
