BACKGROUND

It is the dawn of the Dark Imperium, a period of great strife in the history of the Imperium. The Great Rift is a tear in reality that has literally torn the galaxy in half. Whole planets have been consumed by the void. Other darker places have spilled out of the rent, their surfaces littered with xenos. Fleets were swallowed. Foul flocks of chaotic spawn spewed outward. All along the tear reality buckled and twisted, the natural laws of the cosmos bruised. New wars erupted. Alliances fell apart. New pacts were forged. Many worlds-- once part of the Imperium-- were forgotten.

On one such world there stood a Hive City known as Com'Redas.

When The Great Rift appeared, the orbital stations around Com'Redas were torn apart by warpstorms. Its moon was consumed. A twisted fleet of dark ships descended. A shattered tendril of a Hive Fleet slipped free of a chaotic grasp. Tau forgotten by time found themselves breaching the atmosphere of the planet. Necron Tombs shot across the firmament like meteors. All along this ridge of The Great Rift, life was either swallowed or expelled. The expulsions pummeled the planet.

The administrators of Hive City Com'Redas did what they could. The upper crust were evacuated only to be find the pull of the Great Rift too great. Their mighty ships twisted down into the void where dark shapes found the shadows of the ships' corridors welcoming. A thousand screams was a mere dollop in this newly beginning era of suffering.

The upper levels of Hive City Com'Redas were devastated by the detritus purged from The Great Rift. Com'Redas began to collapse, each avalanche weakening the level below. Many died. Some moved deeper into the Hive City-- the ancient bones of Com'Redas capable of withstanding the weight crashing down upon it. Down in the deepest bowels where sun had not shined in many generations there came a rain of debris that altered the under city's landscape.

The survivors eventually emerged.

And then came the dispossessed. The Eldar. Fragmented Tau. Orks. Tyranid scourge. Broken ranks of Astartes. Necrons in the dark. Each a shattered piece of something much larger. Cut off. Forgotten or wanting to be forgotten. Each now beginning to carve out its territory.

So begins Shadow War: Com'Redas.

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW

Welcome to ComicReaders' first Shadow War campaign, entitled Shadow War: Com'Redas, which utilizes the Shadow War: Armageddon rules from Games Workshop.

A Shadow War campaign makes use of all the Shadow War: Armageddon rules found in the Shadow War: Armageddon rulebook available from Games Worskhop. A campaign strings together several missions in order to create a sort of narrative that describes Kill Teams fighting for control of territory in the bowels of a Hive City. Players fight missions against each other using the Kill Teams they created (see Resources below). These missions gain their Kill Team experience and points. The Kill Team grows in size as the leader's mettle is proven, and the warriors under their command become more powerful. Since this is war, warriors will fall, but players are able to replace the fallen with new recruits-- fresh faces that can advance and become powerful veterans if they survive long enough.

Each player prepares a Kill Team Roster, tracking their warriors' advancements, demise, and recruitment through the duration of the campaign.

Every mission fought gains you one or more Promethium Caches-- a game reward that abstracts the supplies and territory gained and lost by fighting your enemies. These Promethium Caches can be exchanged for Special Operatives that join your Kill Team for a single mission. Caches can also be used to give you more points to spend as you modify your Kill Team roster between missions.

The player with the most Promethium Caches at the end of the campaign is declared the winner of the campaign.

CAMPAIGN DETAILS

Please note: Each player taking part in this campaign should have a copy of and be familiar with the rules for Shadow War: Armageddon. This is not 7th or 8th edition 40K. This is not Kill Team or Heralds of Ruin. This is its own set of rules. A store copy of Shadow War: Armageddon will be available for use during campaign games played at ComicReaders Downtown, but ideally each player should have a copy of the rules. Each player is required to have a copy of their Kill Team datasheet with them for each mission. Also, each player is required to maintain and bring a copy of their Roster.

Please note this as well: Models on your campaign Kill Team can, at times, gain new weapons. ComicReaders likes to use WYSIWYG rules during ComicReaders 40K events. Ideally, the campaign will make use of WYSIWYG but we also understand that some players won't have models for all weapon changes. We will require that players' models are what is listed on the datasheet--- no Hormaguants standing in for Ravengers, for example, but we will allow substitutes for weapon choices. Example--- that Tyranid Warrior with the devourer actually has a lashwhip for this mission. BUT players are required to have their models and datasheets labelled appropriately so it is clear to both the player and their opponent which models are equipped with what weapons.

Duration

Shadow War: Coma'Redas is a 12-week campaign.

The campaign starts on Thursday, June 15.

Players are invited to meet at ComicReaders on the evening of June 15 to kick-off the campaign. Games played on that night can be campaign games counting toward campaign stats or learning games not counting toward campaign stats.

Missions / Matches Details and Restrictions

Every two-week period will feature a campaign mission. Players playing campaign games during a two-week period will play the mission for that period. The missions can be found in the Shadow War: Armageddon rulebook, but the mission details will also be available at ComicReaders Downtown for use during the campaign.

Each match is played on a 4x4 surface.
Set-up is described in the mission details.
Each player should come to each game with their current Roster and datasheets.

Each player can play a maximum of 3 campaign games in a two-week period.
Each game in a two-week period must be played against a different player.

Match results (win/loss) need to be reported to the campaign organizer, Chad Boudreau.

Each match follows these steps:

1. Muster for battle, which means...
- Rosters are up-to-date before the player arrives for the match
- Special operative(s) are chosen (Promethium Caches reduced) before the match begins

2. Hunt in the Promethium Sprawl
- Both players role on the table seen on page 99 of the Shadow War: Armageddon rules. Both results are in effect.

3. Set-up as per mission details and play the match

4. Rewards of Battle (see page 100 of the Shadow War: Armageddon rules)
- Recover Injured Fighters*
- Claim Promethium
- Advance
- Promote

5. Report win/loss to Chad Boudreau

6. Optional: Report deaths, promotions, recruitment, advances, etc to the rest of the campaign players via SaskGames, thus adding flavour to the narrative of the campaign.

Mission Schedule

Weeks 1 - 2 (June 15 - June 28): Kill Team Fight
Weeks 3 - 4 (June 29 - July 12): Scavengers
Weeks 5 - 6 (July 13 - July 26):  The Raid
Weeks 7 - 8 (July 27 - August 9): Hit and Run
Weeks 9 - 10 (August 10 - August 23): Ambush
Weeks 11 - 12 (August 24 - September 7): Final Mission

The Final Mission is a special mission being created by 40K player Mark Dynna (Malachi).

Please note: Where applicable, players may play the Rescue mission described in the Shadow War: Armageddon rules. Rescue missions do not count toward the 3 game limit per two-week period.

Promethium Caches
Promethium Caches are gained when you play a game. A loss games you 1 Promethium Cache. A win gains you D3 Promethium Cache. Others may be gained because of mission specific rules.

At the end of the campaign, the player who gained the most Promethium Caches is the victor! Their Kill Team has gained the most territory and the most resources by slaughtering their enemies!

Promethium Caches can be spent to gain Special Operatives or to provide you with more points to use during Recovery. (This is in the Shadow War: Armageddon rules.) You reduce your Promethium Cache count on your Roster. But using your Promethium Caches does not reduce your place in the campaign standings.

Terrain
Missions are played on a 4x4 surface.
Set-up as per the mission details.
The Shadow War format works best with lot of terrain with multiple levels of elevation, with lots of places where models can "hide".

CAMPAIGN RANKINGS

The currency of the campaign rankings is how many Promethium Caches you obtained during the course of the campaign.

Your ranking is not affected as you use Promethium Caches.

SHADOW WAR RESOURCES

Games Workshop has made the datasheets for Shadow War Kill Teams available on the Warhammer 40K Community Web site. PRIZES
Prizes are provided by ComicReaders Downtown. Prizes will be given at the end of the campaign. Prizes given will depend on the number of active players involved in the campaign. The prizes information will be updated before the beginning of the campaign.

GAME SCHEDULE
Thursday all day is guaranteed for space to be free in the store. Players do not have to only play on Thursdays at the store, but the space is made available. Players are to schedule games between other players.

The store is generally not available Friday nights due to other events in the store.

There is a regular Warmachine / Hordes group that meets every Wednesday night so there is not usually a lot of room available on Wednesday after 6pm.

Please call ComicReaders to see if there is any room in the store. Please use the Sask Games Forums (http://forums.saskgames.com/index.php?board=4.0) to find out if there are major events happening in order to help you schedule matches against other players in the campaign.

When wanting to play games at the store, be mindful of store hours. Keep in mind how long it takes to set up and clean up a game. Staff may ask players to leave when it is time to close the store without a time warning.

WANT TO PLAY IN THE CAMPAIGN?
Contact ComicReaders Downtown via email (readers2@sasktel.net), phone (779-0900), in-person at the store, send Chad Boudreau a PM, or sign up here. We will need your first and last name, phone number, (optionally) email address, and what Shadow War Kill Team you will be playing.

THANKS
This League would not be possible without the dedication of ComicReaders' staff.
Thanks to Mark Dynna for helping with parts of the campaign structure.

GAME: X-Wing: Star Wars Miniatures - Wave 1 to 3 101 Pt. Tournament
ORGANIZER: Derek Chow
START TIME: 10:00am
DURATION: 6 hours
PLAYERS: 10 player maximum
DETAILS: X-Wing will once again be featured at Prairie Game Expo.  This tournament will follow standard FFG X-Wing tourney rules with some special exceptions.  The player roster limit will be capped at 10 participants.  There will be 4 rounds of swiss played at 75 min. each in length.  We will stop and take a break after the second game for lunch.  To avoid anyone having to sit out in bye rounds, I will only play in the tournament if we have an odd number of entrants, otherwise I will be organizing and running a learn to play station as well.   A prize support kit for the tourney is being generously donated by ComicReaders downtown.  The exceptions to the standard tourney rules are as follows:

Wave 1 to 3 ships only

It is my intention to feature classic Star Wars ships from the original trilogy at this PGX.  Thus only ships from Waves 1 to 3 will be allowed to be fielded.  This means no scum, and a limited roster of Rebel and Imperial ships.  However, ship upgrade cards from any wave will still be legal.  A list of available ships to use are as follows:

Rebel:
T-65 X-Wing
Y-Wing
YT-1300 Freighter (Rebel pilots only, NO Resistance)
A-Wing
B-Wing
HWK-290

Imperial:
TIE Fighter
TIE Advanced
Slave 1 (Imperial pilots only, NO Scum)
TIE Interceptor
TIE Bomber
Lambda-Class Shuttle

101 Point Squads
Ever feel like you designed the perfect squad, only to find out it was 1 point over 100?  Well you won't have to worry about that here.  The squad point limit will be capped at 101 points instead of the standard 100 at this tournament.

To register for a spot in the tournament please post a reply in this PGX forum or on the Star Wars X-Wing Regina Facebook page (but not both!).  Pre-registration is not necessary to participate, but there is a limit of 10 players.
