Carcassonne League & Fundraiser
2017 - Season III

WHAT IS CARCASSONNE?
The Game

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his meeples on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner.

During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like: "Is it really worth putting my last meeple there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead, giving him a hard time to complete his project and score points?" Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities.

WHAT IS THE LEAGUE STRUCTURE?
The league will have three rounds: preliminary, semi-final, and final. The league will play 6 preliminary games, once every 3 weeks starting in February 2017. All league games will be played at ChewsDay Challenge. In the preliminary round, when possibly, each table will have 4 league members. Each league night will have a random number of expansions in play.

The top 8 players will move to the semi-final round, which will be held on May 30, 2017. There will be 2 games with 4 players each. The first and second place player of each game (highest score) will move to the final round. In case of ties, the highest scoring player from the Regular Season will win.

League Entry Fee
There will be a $20 entry fee. All monies will be donated to the 2017 Play With Your Food event to support Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. The entry must be paid before a player`s first game.

Prize Structure
Prizes will be TBA. We will try to get prizes from Z-Man again.

League Points System
The top 8 players with the highest scoring totals over 4 games (your best 4 games will be added together) will move on to the semi-finals. Ties will go to the player who played the most games, then total points over those games.

Points:
4 points for 1st place. 3 points for 2nd place. 2 points for 3rd and lower. If table needs to accommodate more than 4 players, each player will receive +1 point per player over the 4th.

Board Games & Maximum Players
ComicReaders will supply all the board games necessary for the league. This league will support the maximum of 24 players. All games will be run over 4 tables, dividing the number of attendees.

What are the League Rules In Play
We will be using the standard rules found in the Carcassonne rulebook with these few rules for clarification:

Starting Player
Starting player will be determined randomly.

A tile laid is a tile played
After you've placed your tile on the board and removed your hand from it you may not pick it up and place it somewhere else on the board. Players cannot slide tiles on the table to make room for new tiles being placed--consider them fixed-- so please be aware of the limitations of the table area.
