GAME DESIGNER'S CORNER
:excited :scrab-g :scrab-a :scrab-m :scrab-e :scrab-blank :scrab-s :scrab-c :scrab-h :scrab-e :scrab-d :scrab-u :scrab-l :scrab-i :scrab-n :scrab-g  :excited

Saskatchewan has a growing community of board game and role playing game designers. PGX supports local game designers showcase their games by hosting a "Game Designer's Corner" in which there will be demos and play tests of local designs featured throughout the day. Contact Derek (lifeofturner) for more details!

GAME: Galactic Payload (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/231473/galactic-payload)
DESIGNER: Nathan Ottenson
PLAYERS: 2-4
START TIME: 11:00 am; 1:00 pm; 3:00 pm
DURATION: 90 mins.

Local designer Nathan Ottenson of the Regina Game Forge will be featuring his design Galactic Payload throughout the day. Galactic Payload is a midweight Euro-style resource management and trading game in which the goal is to be the first to colonize your home planet. The players accomplish this by trading the resources their home planet produces with trading outposts spread out through six separate sectors across the galaxy. The trade conditions dynamically change every turn for every sector. Players may also spend resources to upgrade their ship and to build mining outposts that passively collect more resources every turn.

Every ship produces 'Powercubes' on every turn. These 'Powercubes' are then spent to move across the galaxy and then allocated to the players ship systems such as Shields, Weapons or Thrusters. These are used to protect the player from hazards such as Pirates and other players. The first player to return six units of each resource that their home planet does not produce wins the game.

We are also excited to feature Saskatoon game designer Michael Long, who has started a group there in the past few months. He will be bringing his games "Royal Puppets" and "Geomancers" to play throughout the day.

GAME: Royal Puppets
DESIGNER: Michael Long
PLAYERS: 2-4
DURATION: 40 mins.

Royal Puppets is a game of 18th century courtly intrigue where players manipulate the emotions of several royal families to accomplish their schemes. But be careful! Anyone can use these family members for their schemes; you must try to deduce and foil the schemes of the other players, lest your spider-web of carefully laid plans fall apart.

GAME: Geomancers
DESIGNER: Michael Long
PLAYERS: 1-4
DURATION: 75 minutes

Geomancers is a game where players team up to take down by a boss by casting spells. To cast a spell, players must arrange different coloured mana on their sheets into various shapes. Casting spells that have similar shapes and colours is more efficient, encouraging players to find the most efficient shape to make. Each boss is unique, and has a boss deck that determines its behaviour, as well as multiple unique ultimate attacks that must be charged up.

Local designer Derek Turner of Regina Game Forge will also have his game Pot O' Gold available to demo during the day.

GAME: Pot O' Gold (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/163708/pot-o-gold)
DESIGNER: Derek Turner
PLAYERS: 2-4
DURATION: 30-40 mins.

Pot O' Gold is a colorful, fast-paced family card game. Each player takes on the role of a leprechaun trying to be the first to complete their rainbow and get the Pot O' Gold - but they have to be wary of the other devious tricksters who have the same goal!

On their turns, players may play in one (or both) of two ways: to add to or to solidify their rainbow in front of them, or as an action. Hand order matters, and players must play the first card from their hand every turn; they may choose to play the second if possible. Play continues until one player has played all colors of the rainbow in order and plays a Pot O' Gold to win the game.

Pop by the Game Designer's Corner any time to check out what our local Saskatchewan designers are creating!

You may have to tweak the rules for the Smash Up tournament. One game of 4-player Smash Up generally takes an hour (though 45 minutes is not unreasonable), so we won't be able to get 3 rounds completed in the preliminary round. You may also need to have a tie-breaker rule.

I would also recommend modifying the base rules to be bases equal to the number of players, instead of the rulebook's number of players +1. It helps speed things up.

I couldn't comment on the locked post.

All that being said, I am definitely in for the Smash Up and 7 Wonders tournaments!

Would there be any interest in an Adventure League Epic?

DDEP07-01 Peril at the Port is the name of the Epic Adventure only available at conventions, and it would require a minimum of 4 tables to qualify.  That being said i'd be happy to run one of those tables and try to convince a few others to run some as well if there was enough interest.

Comic Readers would have to fill out the form to get the module though.

GAME: Dragon Ball Super Card Game
ORGANIZER: Hayden / Adam
START TIME: 11:00am - 3:00pm
DURATION: varies
PLAYERS: 2 players per game
DETAILS: The Dragon Ball Super Card Game is the newest iteration of the Dragon Ball license applied to a collectible card game. While borrowing some basic terms and ideas from previous versions of the game, DBS introduces a number of new mechanics including a unique "combo" system, cards used for multiple purposes (energy, combos and characters) and a system designed to emulate the tendency of Dragon Ball characters to "power up" after taking damage.

Prairie Game Expo is excited to announce Hayden and Adam (moderators of the Dragon Ball Super TCG Club) will be attending from 11:00am - 3:00pm to showcase the new Dragon Ball Super Card Game. Adam and Hayden are available to battle existing players, teach new players, and answer questions. Existing players are encouraged to bring their own decks. New players can make use of a introductory deck provided by ComicReaders. (Decks available while supplies last.)

ComicReaders Downtown hosted its first official Dragon Ball Super tournament in December 2017. It was attended by 13 players, which is an amazing turnout for the first tournament. It's a sign that the Dragon ball Super community is growing in Regina.

I've been to a few PGX's in the past, but was always too shy/nervous to get too involved.  That is also what has kept me from attending Tuesday events. I hope to come out to one at some point, but it still seems very intimidating.  (I'm also booked up on Tuesday with a class now until the end of March).  I will work hard to overcome my fear/intimidation and make it out to some more events I am sure.
Thanks again :)

Don't be shy - if you look lost when you come, our evening's ambassador will come talk to you and help you find a game, or you can sign up for one in advance.  We're very welcoming to new people :)

If you intend to come, you could always post in a thread and give us a sense of what kind of game you're comfortable with, and we can help find you a good match.
